Strong 17" aluminum wheel

I need a stronger wheel, the stock wheels on my commander suck. i have broken the lip on the outside of 3 wheels, they went over a few rocks, and didn't hold up at all. i'm afraid the wheels will eventually fail.

our commander weighs about 6000# fully loaded with all our gear.

the brakes are very large, and a 17" wheel barely clears the brake calipers in the front and back.

we don't need bead locks, the tires stay on when aired down to 15 psi. and thats as low as we need to go on a C range tire and 6000#'s

i need a 17" wheel with a 5x5 pattern and ~ 3" backspacing.

thanks

I'm not going to jump on the "bash Weld" wagon.....but you might contact http://www.amtforgedalloys.com/ and just see what they have to say.

I have this sneaking feeling that some of the Weld folks might have landed with AMT.

I don't know if they have any applications suited to our applications yet, but it may be worth a call.....look for the "contact" info on their page.

I am - I had a Weld rim fail on my tow rig. Of course they discontinued that style, so I had to buy 4 new rims. Thanks weld.

I can't answer the OP's questions specifically, but unless weld has gone serious changes in the past few years, I would look elsewhere.

Maybe there was a reason for the discontinuation?

I'll second the ALCOA sugestion. If you want an alum wheel that will carry the weight, than you have to get forged not cast. ALCOA is the way and the truth.
