Military wrap

Do any of you guy's run military wrap leafsprings? Do they adversely affect offroad ability? I recently discovered in the course of a tranny filter change that my DD Grand Wagoneer had snapped a main leaf clean through.Only thing holding it together is a little metal banding.I'm thinking of going with military wrap and just wanted some input.

All my off-road rigs that have leaves have mil wrap leaves. I could see how in theory they may limit the droop slightly, of course that is not something I have tested. I just prefer it for peace of mind out in BFE.

Kind of my thought.I'll trade some offroad ability for a measure of safety.I'm not building a rock crawler or bogger,it's a back country battle wagon .The wife loves really remote areas and has always wanted to go exploring the Bad Lands as well as Montana, and Wyoming.

Our Tacoma truggy runs custom springs with a military wrap in front and rear and flexes fine. The military wrap doesn't fit tight so the leaves have room to move a bit.

Mine are military wrap. I never had much travel, so if I lost some I don't miss it.

Military wrapped springs is all they sell in Australia these days.
Too many of the single type have let people down when the going gets tough.

I've ran Alcan's w/ military wrap on all four corners and they have done well both on & off road, never had a problem with droop either.

I've used Mil Wrap spring packs in the past and they don't have any less flex than regular single wrap eye springs. They don't make lifted springs in mil wrap, since I use Australian (Old Man Emu) 4" lift springs on my SOA Jeep CJ8, so the mil wraps went away. All four spring packs are YJ spec and identical. I always carry an extra main spring on jeep outings. Last trip I made was on the Rubicon and sure enough I was all twisted up and 'BANG' a front main spring let go. Got out the extra spring and used my 5' hi lift jack to lift the front end up. We had it replaced in about 20 minutes. Most of the time it snaps right at the centering hole. This has only happened three times on my 25 year old rock crawler, but enough to carry a spare.
Even more important than Mil Wraps on a Expedition Veh. would be to carry one replacement main spring.
regards, as always, jefe

All of Deaver's desert racing leafsprings are extra-double-duper-mil-wrapped and their 62" springs are capable of close to 20" of vertical wheel travel and they can get seriously twisted-up.
