EXPO JEEP thoughts?
So first Id like to say hey to all you EXPO guys! I plan on being in this part of the forum a lot.
Little bit about me, currently I have an 02 TJ that I have been doing the rock crawling thing with for the last 3 years. Well I am more of an EXPO guy at heart and rock crawling kinda gets boring to me after awhile. I like to explore and live on the land. Im planning on selling the TJ in the next couple months, then im off to Afganistan for a year. While I am over there I will be researching and getting lots of information. Now my plan and what I want to do is get a 4 door JK wrangler. How do you guys feel this vehicle would be at the whole EXPO scene? Im a huge jeep guy so other options are kinda a stretch for me. Im also considering an Adventure Trailer too for more storage and space. Just would like to hear some opinions on the 4 doors, dont see a lot of them in this section. Thanks, M3TA5IN |

Unless you are travelling alone, you will likely need a trailer. Think what you need not what others think. Being able to live off your vehicle in the middle of nowhere can be done millions of ways. Think what works for you.

Yea, in my eyes a 4 door could work. Its just me, my fiance, and our dog. We are young so kids wont be for quite awhile. I figured the trailer would be a def. shortly after the jeep is all set up.

That's why we at DEnd Designs are offering our latest creation: Underbody Racks. With lifted vehicles there is a lot of room underneath the vehicle for all you expedition gear. We realize that you can't keep or even fit all of your gear on the interior of the vehicle, so instead of having to use a roof rack, or a trailer we invented the Underbody Rack. That way you no longer have to worry about raising your CoG as you would with a roof rack, or the loss in maneuverability that a trailer causes.

ExPo is a great board to read through.
If you save some cash to burn, you can get one of these: http://www.earthroamer.com/tab_xpedi..._overview.html If I had the cash and time to travel, I'd definitely get an EarthRoamer...except I'd get the XV-LT. I like my spaces.

I drive a Dodge 2nd gen with a 2" lift and 37s so I have an open spare tire space that would be a great storage location.

I like the JK's quite a bit, especially the Rubicon editions.
They have pretty much everything you'd need to have a strong base for exploring in relative comfort. Small lift and bumpers and you're good to go. A trailer is a great addition because you wouldn't have to add any sort of rack on top, and the trailer can handle the extra gear, taking all of the extra wear, tear and abuse rather than the tow vehicle. You can also store some extra fuel in Jerry cans on the trailer to help with the small-ish tank on the JK. Adventure Trailers seem to make pretty high quality products, and they are always improving their designs. The trailers can be customized to have anything you'd need to be self-contained for at least a week, especially if you get a solar panel setup to recgharge a battery bank for any electrical devices.

We dont really use it as an expedition vehicle per se, but here we camped 3 people in the JK for a week on the Rubicon Trail! Those are 37" tires on only a 3" lift!
