Struck a deal with a buddy and finally got my hands on a 60. It's a kingpin Ford from a 90 single wheel. The axle was just gone through (what this amounts to is beyond me) and new brakes. I think it comes with steering, I'll find out Friday.
I will have to pull the axle out of D though. I traded him the 44 in the front of that truck along with some cash and he is bringing it up from the west side of Nashville. now that I have a 1 ton front, most of you probably think I will be going to a 1 ton rear. Those of you who think that would be incorrect. The 9" in the back of this is already build like a brick shit house, so I see no use in changing something that is awesome already. Dan did a hell of a job building these axles. The front that is in the Explorer now will find its way under D once I go to install the 60. Also, I don't plan on installing it until I have a reputable locker and a gear change, plus wanting to add a cage ASAP. Edit: 10/12 I decided to go with a 1 ton rear. 14 Bolt. Not sure if it's a cab and chassis one or a SRW Last edited by Josh40601; 10-17-2012 at 05:17 AM. |

Just my $0.02 Edit: maybe not way different but 69.25 for the 60 vs 65 for the 9

Adapters on the front. I don't care if the front is wider than the back. My uncle has a 14 bolt just laying here at my dads house. I could probably snag it from him, but again, the 9 already has the chromos. Already has the disc brakes. Already has the locker and the gears.

It would drive me nuts having 8 lugs in front and 5 in back, and I am far from picky. Not to mention it will look weird with the narrow rear axle. I say find a 14 bolt or 10.25. Sell the 9'' for more $$$ and put that money towards a cage/hookers/blow.

The front being wider than the rear is pretty normal but 5" wider is going to look goofy. Running spacer/adapters is the perfect idea... solve both problems at once.
http://www.airbagit.com/Billet-Wheel...8650-5-8op.htm ^something like that will get ya 70" front, 69" rear and have you 8 on 6.5 all the way around

That will likely be my course of action. I will need to replace my H1s though, which sucks, but hopefully I can get a good deal from DIYBeadlocks or TWF. Both are awesome vendors.
First thing is to get it here, and start collecting the parts. Detroit or selectable locker up front. Geared to match the rear. |

You should be able to sell your H1's and just about break even on an 8 lug set

hey josh, have you looked into machining the 60 hubs for 5 on 5.5 spacing? the same can be done with 14 bolts if it comes to that.

It would be cheaper and easier to just swap to 8 on 6.5 in the rear. Moser and Currie will send you 8 lug shafts for whatever spline your 9" is. I assume you already have disk brakes those would just need to be redrilled for 8 lug or possibly swapping to another rotor depending. I doubt price wise it would be much different than a quality set of wheel spacers.
OR you could FF the 9" with D60 hubs.. Last edited by cdawall; 06-29-2012 at 12:13 AM. |

Quality wheel spacers usually run around 100-200 bucks. Those wil likely be the avenue of approach. I'll sell the H1s I have now, and pick up a new set for the 8 lug.
Biggest thing is the Cage. That's number 1 priority right now. This was just a good deal that fell into my lap. |

nice, interested to see what you do for a cage.
there was a cherokee i saw a while back that had the top of the cage external like a roof rack, and the sides went through the roof to the interior looked pretty slick and didn't kill headroom. i can dig up pics if you want.
