Unhappy fuel sender float

Hey Guys, the float came off my friends fuel sending unit. He doesn't want to spend $117 for a new one. What can we put on the float rod that will hold up to gas/ethanol?

hey, it worked for me!

i found teh leaks, filled it with water first to purge the fuel and vapors out. drained and let it dry. soldered the cracks/problems, and held it under diesel for a day. shook it and listened for leaks..... free!
