2006 Ford Dana 60 Front axle Locker?
I am confused for all Detroilt products refer to 4.10 and lower and 4.56
and higher however I'm running a 4.30 front and rear in my truck with 38x15.50R18 tires. I currently have a TrueTrac in the rear right now and am looking rebuild my front axle with all new seals and ball joints and was going to put a locker or TrueTrac in it since it will be all broken down. I am swinging more towards the locker than the TrueTrac but would like an opinion from someone else too. I do alot of offroading in the mud and snow. I been stuck twice, once in a very deceiving puddle of mud that was just a real bad call and then once it slid into a off road rut lifting the right rear wheel off the ground causing the TrueTrac to show off its bad side and one front tire was unloaded and just kicking up dirt while the other didn't move... Any help would be great. Thanks, Patrick |

Ugh I'm not feeling it...
For a front axle on a driver get a selectable locker. Aka arb, or e-locker. I have the e-locker in mine and love it.

Thats the thing... no matter my choice in E-Locker, Locker, Truetrac EVERYONE is selling the products as such: For gear ratios 4.56 and higher use this part number X
For gear ratios 4.10 and lowever use this part number Y What the hell part number am I to use if I have 4.30's in my truck... Do I have to switch my gear ratios front and rear just to have an option in locker devices or am I stuck with the open dif that came with it... Patrick |

It may use the 4.10 from what I found. But to be sure I'd do what the easiest thing to do in a situation like this. Call them.

I think your right... What I was just reading makes me think because the truck came with the 3.73 gears and I never switched the carriers to a high gear or made a gear thickness change I would still use the 4.10 and lower carrier. When I replaced the gears I used Ford Motorsport gears to keep it as stock as I can for this reason alone... I sent out a bunch of E-mails; Eaton, ARB, a couple of Ring and Pinion folks too... We'll see what they all say but I'm totally over the open diff in the front...

![]() you clearly claim that the 4.30 gears you have fit on a 4.10 down carrier, yes? so why the fuck would you question what carrier to use with an aftermarket diff? ![]() p.s. merry fuggin' ho ho dumbfuck newb

Ford sells gears up to 4.30 for the D60 front and no higher. I know the odds of the 4.10 and lower carrier are high that it will work however why the hell doesn't EVERYONE sell the lower carrier as a 4.30 and lower then... I have build enough differentials that I kow precision is key and when someone states it only fits a specific range of gears there is a reason for it. As for the current carrier in the truck I don't know shit about it. So compatability with the current FMS Ring and pinnion, Dana Axle, and a aftermarket carrier is the point of the this thread. Sure the current open diff might measure out to be the same as the 4.10 and lower EATON but if it's off even the thickness of your tinny little pp it's not gonna work... So thanks for your input FATASS460 but it's neither required or desired... P Last edited by patrickrc51; 12-25-2011 at 01:54 AM. |

I've seen several of fatdans posts, he's just an asshole for some reason. I welded my front end on my 04 F-250. The weld has held up great, I broke the inner and outer axle on the driver side but not the weld. Then when you get back on the road just unlock the hubs and it's like there's nothing there. So I say weld it!!
