Question 1998 f250 Light Duty ( straight axle swap help!)

I want to swap the Independent suspension out of my 98 f250ld to a straight axle and then plan on lifting it. I have had no luck talking To some of the guys around here and am new to the forum but did not see any similar posts laying around.

I would greatly appreciate any advice about how to go about this project, thanks.

A '98? You sure about that? '97 or '99

I'm 100% sure. I can even upload a pic of the vehicle info when I get home.

So it's a 2x superduty? Or a obs? Or is it a f-150 7700?

Iirc the '98 f-250LD was a f-150 with a sterling and some funky 7lug wheel and ifs not I-beams.

He's talking about those light duty f 250s, they were the 97 up F 150 body style, they had 7 lug semi float rear ends and 5.4 power. My buddy has one, basically a rough riding F 150 that has expensive wheels on it if you have to replace one. As far as info on SASing them I would imagine someones done it. I find if you search google and put pirate after it you'll have better luck than using pirates own search feature.

250LD/F150 7700

- 7 Lug Rims -
- larger frame then the F150
- Bigger Brakes
- 3:73 rear end from factory
- 4R100 Tranny
- Extra leaf in back
- Larger Torsion bars -
- Heavier towing capacity
- Larger rotors, I believe 13.5"
- HD shocks
- power steering cooler
- 4700 lbs rear axle
- HD rad, thicker
- HD alternator
- HD battery
- the tranny is the same as a F250 SD and the F350 SD
- 8,600 lbs towing
- 11,500 lbs GCVWR
- 7,700 lbs payload

Most of that may be right, but it is 7,700 pounds GVW, not payload. I think the hard part is going to be finding a 7 lug front axle to use. Might be simpler to use an 8-lug dana 44 or 60 front and then swap your rear axle for any number of 10.25 Sterlings, 14 bolts, Dana 60 70 80's or whatever floats your boat. Do a search for sas swap on a regular F150 with that in mind.

Thats what I thought. Search for any f-150 97-present and that should be really close to what you'd have to do. It's kinda one of those things that if you have to ask then its past your skills.

Thanks for the tips. I'm not going about this alone. Just trying to get all the info I can before diving in.

What did you end up doing to complete the swap? I just had a torsion bar snap on me and I'm now looking into the SAS...
