Ford Dana 44 knuckle swap?

I have a 44 from a 1979 Bronco (5lug), someone on craigslist has a dana 44 heavy duty 3/4 ton axle from a 1978 (?) F250 (8lug) flat top knuckles. Will they swap and still keep a good allignment?

I agree with the last statement. It's been covered A LOT over there. Solid D44's can have the knuckles swapped no prob. You don't even need the knuckles to swap to 8 lug though, just everything from the spindle out. (Most guys convert the TTB to 8 lug with chebby stuff). Most use a custom DOM steering setup.

Whats the goal with the swap... simply to convert to 8 lug? I'd just swap 10B 8 lug outers on and call it a day. Besides, the jury is still out on F250 knuckles being true flat tops. Check out Mr. N's D44 page on that.

Also, pretty sure you have to swap knuckles when doing Ford 8 lug outers, Something about the caliper not fitting the knuckle.

The deal was I found the 1979 Bronco axle for $100 on craigslist. I bought it hoping I could re-sell to get a dana 60. Didn't happen as everyone thinks they are worth $1000 here. So I posted on CL again looking to see if someone wanted to trade 8-lug for 5-lug patterns. Someone replied back with a 1979 F250 knuckle set. He was installing that axle in a older jeep so he wanted the 5 on 5.5 pattern. So we met at his house, useing a level, we saw both knuckle sets where the same top to bottom level. Swapped everything we needed to make it work for both of us. Including knuckles, spindles, hubs, rotors, calipers, caliper supports, locking hubs. I too plan on using DOM tubing for the steering and track bar linkage with some Ebay Hiem joings/bungs and mis aignment spacers

For the steerig, I'm thinking about making a new knuckle to knuckle link that will bolt under the steering arms and have the drag link mount above the knuckle to knuckle / steering arm on the pass side knuckle. Deleting the need for the 3 studded steering arm.

Should one axle be wider than the other on my truck, nothing a wheel spacer can't fix.

What do you'll think?

GM knuckles-out is the answer.
