what the difference in a Dana 60??

What is the difference between a 78.5-79 dana 60 and a 96 dana 60 other than the year as far as measurements and the such can the be interchanged?? I am planning a sas on a 95 f150 and they call for a 78.5-79 dana 44 or 60 but I have a 96 d 60 in the garage waiting to go under the 150. thanks

Hmm................... I don't think this has ever been covered before. Try asking in General 4x4, you'll get a warm response

yes I did

Well my main concernis if I am going to be able to adapt the c-bushings to the dana 60. I have a 44 as well but would rather use the 60. Also I am not using the fabritech kit, it is to damn much$$ and I can fab up my own SAS. Thanks

Well, $hit. If'n you're going with radius arms then use the D-60 you have, as you will have more room between the driver knuckle and the Diff to locate the c-bushings. Just check the play in the ball joints before hitting the road.

Cross posting........

I'll have to go and check it out to see what responce he got......

Eric

Edit: DOH! I'm an idiot. I got the early/late D60's reversed in my head. Yeas the Earlier one has more room between the diff and drivers knuckle......my bad

Honestly there aren't enough posts in the FORD forum to bitch about any questions...even the beat to death D60 questions. Searching rarely answers a persons question. Admittedly though, in this case it might have. JMHO

Cross posting...that's another story

the difference

The difference between the 78-79 is the spring perch width the earlier being narrow, I don't know what it measures. But also the 96 housing has about 2" of tube between the housing and the knuckle, I have had to deal with this on my 60 front. I had the knuckle cut off and a new longer tube put in, so I could attach links and a coilover.

my plan is

The way I look at it is if all the 78-79 dana 44/60 will work. I have seen a few SAS's done on broncos and 150's as well as the way over rated fabritech kit (POS) but have not seen it done with the newer d60. So my only real question is will I have enough room to fit the C-bushing between the drivers side knuckle and the diff. Thanks for all the input.

Dana 44 wedge (yes all four are for sale)

77-79 style Dana 60 (yes 77)

85-91 style Dana 60 (pic from Dust Puppy)

My guess, and from what I;ve seen other post. A big NO.
