97 1 ton has heating issues.
My 1997 F350 CC LB has recently lost its heat from the blowers. Good thing its up above freezing now. My temperature gauge is also stuck in the normal zone. From start up to shut off it stays in the same place. I have run it for a month like this and have had no overheating issues. No steam, bubbling or anything tell-tale of what would be gauge pegging. The radiator is full of fluid and the belts are fine. The water pump doesnt squeak squeal or leak, so I am assuming it is still fine.
Where does the temperature gauge get its reading from? Could it just be blockage to my heater or maybe the core went bad in it?

Hows it run in the summer though? I do a bit of hauling through the hills and 95 degrees is not uncommon in these parts...

I don't know if I would go that high, but I've been running a 195* in mine and it gets 110* here often in the summertime. If it's an auto tranny that runs a cooler line through the radiator I would probably hesitate to run a really hot t-stat.
I'm thinking clog, bad sensor, or simply stuck thermostat. Do you have a heater control valve on this truck?

Sounds like you have 2 different issues to me based on reading your post.
1 - Temp gauge does not work 2 - Heater does not blow hot air. For the gauge, finder the sender on the engine and ground it out and see if the gauge pegs. For the heater, I'd start checking to make sure the heater control valve and the blend doors are working.

Where is the temp sensor on the 351W in this thing? Lost my damn Chiltons book.
I think I will throw in a 195 for now as well.

Check and see if your heater hoses going in and out of the core are hot. Drop the glove box door and remove the 8 or so screws that hold the heater core cover in place, see if the core is getting hot you can also check the blend door at the same time.
