5.0 vs 5.8 swap!

I found a crack in my 5.0 block that is in my rig and after sourcing out a used 5.0 block A guy pulled up to the shop and asked if I had any use for a 94 5.8 out of a truck. He only wants a couple hundred bucks for it. He did say it has a burnt valve, but the engine it needs to replace is a 87 5.0, will the heads swap over? Also does anyone know the physical dimensions that are different between the two? My truck has the floor built around the engine and if it is much bigger it will not fit.
Thanks for any help,
John

Are the heads interchangable?

So it is 3"wider and 2-1/4" taller
is the height all abover the motor mounts or is some of it below the mounts?

The way it sound it isn't going to work for me

Is the 5.8 that much more powerful? Or can easily get a comparable amount of power out of the 5.0?
John

heads are a little taller which makes the intake a little wider. you get tq from the 351.

The 302 and the 351 have about the same horsepower, but the 351 has more torque probably cause it has a longer stroke.

To use the 5.0 heads on your 351 you'll have to have the head bolt holes enlarged. The 5.0 use 7/16" bolts vs the 5.8's 1/2" bolts I'm not sure about chamber volumes though, other than that they'll bolt on.

It's not the heads that are taller it's the deck heighth thats taller, placing the heads higher and farther apart.

from the pictures it looks like your 5.0 intake is partially under your firewall - if that is the case, then the 351W will not fit - at least not with EFI - the top of the efi intake will be at least 1 or 2 inches taller than the 5.0.

on the plus side the '94 351 block is a roller block so you can easily use a roller cam.

For the heads, as stated above, you'll need to re-drill the head bolt holes for them to fit - however I would upgrade the heads. The 302 heads are already low flowing heads for a 302, on a 351w they will starve it for air some. For the low dollar route, get a set of GT40P heads and some port work, or a set of world heads. To really wake it up get a set of Canfield 18 degree or AFR 185s.

The 351 heads are the way to go. They fit nicely on the 302. You'll use a 302 intake because the 351 is to wide (as stated above from a taller deck height). You can use the same 302 head bolts but the better route is to get collard head bolts (they have a wider shank at the top of the difference in the hole size of the 351 heads, available through ARP I believe). I put 351W heads on my 302 in my '95 Ranger and they were perfect. It doens't look liek you'll have room for the whole 351W motor though.
