I just got off the phone with a friend of a friend and he wants me to build him a 408 Windsor for his 91 full size Bronco. His 351 has a rod knocking and is getting read to die. What is the deal with a 408? It has been 20 years since I played with a ford motor much less a small block. Any good URLs for info/Parts??? TIA

Bore 30, 400 crank, Mopar rods, new pistons, new cam = 426. Not a good street motor, but they run the drags great.

Old Scout check these links. It's a 392 but that may be close enough. http://www.fordracing.com/performanceparts/html/PartDesc.asp? Check this place out. www.speedomotive.com they have almost every stroker application you can think of, and some kick ass long rod kits for ford motors too.

The 351w uses the same size mains as the 351/400 mod. I think you have to get the rods cut, or its the block. Its been a long time since I looked into it. But the SVO is a great way to go. No guess work!

Might I strongly suggest putting in a roller cam? It goes a very long way towards driveability and a broader torque curve, as well as fuel mileage. You'll get more HP and torque across the board without having to go to a cam that doesn't idle well. I ran mine with both a nonroller and a roller cam, and I'd heartily recommend going with a roller cam. FWIW, my cam is a 220/229@.050" duration roller cam. Below are the sims of the exact same stroker motor dyno charts with the old flat tappet cam vs the new roller cam if interested.

Here are some good sources for prices. The 408 is a good choice if the motor is going to get used quite abit. www.347streetfighter.com www.dssracing.com www.fordperformancesolutions.com www.excessivemotorsports.com
And I would second what the last post said and run a roller cam/& rockers for sure.

Well, engines are one area I have yet to mess with. The 351W in my 94 Bronco has got 110000 miles on it and still runs great, but I don't expect it to last forever. It seems that most built engines are running carbs. I guess I'm spoiled and don't want to start messing with carbs. You can do a stroker with fuel injection can't you?

Yes, the stroker 423 I'm running is multiport SEFI injected, not carbed. I like it that way muuuuch better than carbed. No worries.
