Looking for info on the input shaft on one out of the fullsize fords. The info I need is:
1. How long is the input shaft from where the bellhousing bolts to the tranny to the tip of the end where the pilot bearing rides. 2. The diameter of where the input bearing rides. 3. The diamiter of the splines for the clutch plate and how many they are. And maybe how deep they are as well if possible. 4. what part of the input shaft is the biggest in diameter and where on the shaft also the skinnyest not counting the pilot bearing area. Thanks for any info. I am trying to determine how possible it would be to put one in my ranger and want to see how possible it is before i drop any money on buying one. And the few other truck people I know don't have any NP435s. Matt

I know the NP435's come with two different input shaft lenghts. 6 1/2 is the common length. Not sure what the other length is. I can get some measurements off a tranny at work. I also have a 11" clutch disc I can measure.
I hope you plan on cutting me in on the profits since I'll be doing all the research

HA profits whats that in the 4 wheeling world. Still not even sure if it will work or not. Just sick of the POS tranny I have now. If I get it to work I am not even sure if I would make more then the one for me. Posted on a few boards about it and all i heard was why not just put a V8 instead. So i guess there isn't to much demand for it.

I don't think there would be much demand for it. However if it was easy, and cheap, things could change.
Most people are scared of this sort of thing. I mean a better tranny for less money, there must be some catch. Right? Right? My initial thought is to put in a 302. I can't even begin to say how much I love my 302. I've actually been thinking about an NP435 behind a 2.8 or 2.9L. It would really help those motors out a lot. Dude I just had an Didn't a C5 come in rangers and BII's? Aren't C4's and C5's the same deminsions? If the transmission side of the bellhousing is a standard ford pattern, the NP 435 would bolt right up. Might need a spacer, a maybe have to machine a pilot bearing. Possibly machine the input shaft on the NP435. This is a very possible swap. [ 10-28-2001: Message edited by: Nobody ] [ 10-28-2001: Message edited by: Nobody ]

OK let me get this right. You are saying that the c4 and np435 share the same bolt pattern for where the bellhousing bolts up? If thats what you are saying this is becoming a super easy swap.
I have thought about the V8 swap but living in cali gives you so many more problems. Pllus by the time you get it done you will lucky to be out for under $2000 I don't have all the tools neccesry to get away to everything the cheapest possible way. Thanks for all the help. Matt

Nobody,
Just been thinking about it and what about the cluth using the c5 bell housing. any ideas on what to do with it. It ont have anything for a fork. or holes for the hydrolic lines to in threw. The reasoning for using the 5spd tranny bellhousing is all the clutch stuff is in position and you already have all the distances set up roght for travel. Plus it would not have any harder or differetent felling clutch pedal then now. Just a few more thoughts. Matt

If you still need specs, give a yell, I have two Ford NP435 sitting on the shop floor and one on the bench in the midst of a rebuild. I'll go measure what ya need.

No I don't need any more specs. I talked with nobody and got a bunch of specs from him. The way I was going to do it wont work anymore so it looks like i am going to put a c4 in instead cause that can be bolted in. Thanks though
Matt

Ahh man, I wanted to see you follow through with it. I know it's possible. Granted a C4 would be cheap, but who wants an auto besides cresco.
I still think its very possible. Not necessarily expensive either.

The only way I see doing it is building a complete new bellhousing and with what I have I don't that is possible. Plus I will only have 2 weeks that it has to be done in. Matt
