C6 to NP435 questions......

Ok, a serious question here. I have a f/s Bronco with a C6 with 1st gear slippin' rather bad at take off...when you first put it in gear. After that it's fine...but it just takes a sec to kick in on cold days and shit. Well that gets real annoying to me and I got a quote from a local guy I really trust to rebuild it for $400 if I pull it. This would include a good shift kit and possibly a nice converter for it.

So here's my idea, I have an NP435 sittin' in an old '79 with a 205 behind it. I really want a stick, I just love them and it really helps with towin' and shit. So can I install the 435 and 205 in the '84 Bronco for less than $400 if say the 4 speed is in ok condition. He'd charge me like $50 to take it and the 205 fully apart and replace anything wrong plus parts. Not bad on my end I don't think. But the '79 isn't a hydro....can I make sure to do that when it goes in the '84. Plus I would need the clutch petal, master and slave, and a good clutch.

What else is needed for this swap.....the crossmember from an 80-86 truck with this tranny right....will the '79 tranny bolt up to the 80's crossmember.

I searched but didn't find as much as I would have liked.

TIA....
Phil

This is an easy swap, but it kinda depends on what engine your swapping it to. I just did this to my 460, and needed flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, clutch bracketry, bellhousing, and the np-435 off course. You could do this swap for a hell of allot less than $400, especially with a parts truck. I spent allot more, but I went with a new flywheel drilled for a 12" clutch, new clutch, new pressure plate, etc. Sticks rule.

The 435 is going to be about 3" shorter than the C6 (probably a long tailhousing on that Bronco), so you'll be shortening/lengthening driveshafts, too.

You might get away with taking the stock C6 crossmember and sliding it forward.

I ended up only having to move the crossmember up about 1" on my application. However, the driveline had to be lengthened quite a bit.

Proeliator, what did you have for a tranny in your truck to begin with? I ask because I'm curious what kind of cross member you used. Was it a C6?.....I didn't know if they would bolt up to the tranny...if so I can slide it forward w/o a problem I doubt. Thanks, Phil

Oh yea....what kind of clutch does everyone use. I'm pretty sure I'll get a new one as well as flywheel and all and I really want it to hold up. What would ya'll suggest?

It was a c-6 that was swapped to the np-435. I used the stock cross member, they use the same one, it will bolt right up. Yea, all you will need to do is more it forward a little. I'd suggest going with a 12" clutch. Several companies make good ones, Mcleod for one.

Ok, then let me ask this. Will the Bellhousing from the 79 work for the hydrolic....I don't think so.

That note then, what all will I need...piece by piece.

The clutch plate, pressure plate, throwout bearing, fork, pedal, master, slave, hose.

What else....Please guys...I've never messed with this tranny or any clutch really so I'm like a blind guy walkin' through traffic. Lead me around a little please. Thanks.

To be honest, I don't know jack shit about 80s broncos. Like I said, this is an easy swap with the old 70s stuff and the old auto/stick cross members were the same, but I can't give you any guarantees with a 84. Whats this going behind, a 351? Anyways, just do it and fab whatever you need along the way.

Ok guys, one of you 435 guru's know what all I need to switch it over from auto to Hydro. I'm just lookin' for names of parts. Like the fork and clutch and shit like that and maybe years although I would guess anything from 80-86 would work.

I would appreciate any help as this is my first clutch set up. I have no doubt I can do it well, just need to know a little more.

Oh yea, I want to stick with an 11" disc as from what I've read they work much better. So names of good clutch assy. would be nice as well.

Thanks guys, Phil

ok you prolly going to need to get a different bell housing anyways
what engine in the 79
and what engine in the 84

just get a bellhousing for a 84 and all the clutch stuff from a 84-86
bronco/truck since you need to get this stuff anyways

you prolly have a 300/302/351w in your 84

the 79 prolly had a 351m/400 which uses a completely different bellhousing

so find a mid 80s donor truck and all will be well

Infoford, the '79 has a nice 300 in it. As the 300 is running good, I just want the 435. I know the bellhousing will bolt up...but I want a hydraulic clutch, so can I either make it work or just find another bellhousing and go from there?

Thanks....Phil

Oh yea...I've got a 351W soon to be a 408. Thanks guys.

if you want hydrualic clutch then you will need the 84 to when ever the quit using the 4 speed tranny bellhousing as it has a couple of bosses cast in to it for the slave cylinder to mount to
other then that it is the same bellhousing
