I have had a mini spool in my 9 inch for about 6 years now . Basically you are removing the spider gears and shims and installing the mini spool in their place . The ring gear will have to be removed so you can remove the roll pin and the center pin . After you have installed the mini spool the ring gear will have to be set up , unless you were really good at marking the locations of everything . Mini spools are great until you have to back up around a corner, but hey , you can't make forward progress by going backwards !
