How much would you give for a 5 lug Dana 60?, out of a 73 Half ton Ford, guy claims he had it custom built because he kept breaking axles with his stock the 9 inch ford it had.

depends if it has the dana 60 outer Knuckles or just the center section. Does it have 60 hubs and axles and was modified to five lug or did they put 44 outers on the 60? If it has the 60 outers it is worth bank. Dyna trac wants a fortune for theirs 5000+

The axle is a rear axle. How do I tell if it is an axle that come stock with the weak 19 splines do I have to pull an axle shaft or is there a number to look for on the tag. I want the axle for my 383 Chevy powered Toyota

I have a 5 x 5.5 rear 60 with 0 miles for about $1100 with everything new except the calipers and housing I rebuilt the calipers myself. This is what I did am doing got a 60 had the BB 9" outer's put on ( cut the 60 machine the tubes slip in the 9" ends and weld with an alignment jig ) then new gears and spool ( thanks Roger Craig Bell AKA FearMe ) then Msoer 35 splined axles front rotors from a 73-94 ford truck behind the axles and caliper mounting plates that I made from 3/8 plate welded to the housing. The calipers are from a caddie I am unsure of what but they are basically Chevy fronts. I have everything done except the driveline and fluid and driving I can't wait to get it done. If you start comparing # you will see it is not much cheaper to build a 9" than it is a 60 and to go to 35 splines in a 9" either means a messed up spool or an aftermarket third member so then you are more than a 60. Just my thoughts.

Do not forget to count the driveline position is higher and that can save some drivlines.

Sounds like a 60-2. They have weak tubes (thin and only 2.75") but often came with 35 spline axles in fords.
