Belt/Pulley/Power steering ???

I have been running the belt for the power steering direct from the crank to the power steering pump...no triangulation. Pump squeels when air down in tight spots on 36 sx's and is a royal pain in the snow at 3-5 PSI. Question: Would adding a two groove water pump pulley help? Does this in affect turn the power steering pump pulley faster or not. This is one of those geometery questions I never got right in HS.

Also, I have a two groove pulley but the hole is 3/4" and the water pump shaft is 5/8". Is there a Ford factory 5/8" hole two groove pulley? Not the part number by chance...it is stamped on it if you have one. I tried a crappy chrome two groove after market one and it blew up like a grenade. Any suggestiong would be great.

PS...the pump/box combo is Saginaw pump, Toy IFS box and the pump is pushing about 1350# or so the guys say that sold it to me. I have the performance unlimited drag/tie rod over knuckle set up.

dunno about the geometry thing, but i bet you could find a way to force the belt to go around more of the pulley. rig up an idler so that you get 75% or so of the pulley covered by the belt, there will be a lot less slippage.

Whether its 1 belt or ten the speed doesnt change. Its the diameter of the pulleys that dictates the speed.

I agree with Smurfsdad, look at it this way, for a given RPM, say 1000 RPM the crank rotates 2000 time a minute. If the diameter of the crank pully and the P/S pully are constant the RPM of the P/S will stay the same. smaller P/S pully = faster P/S, smaller crank pully = slower P/S RPM.

As Imnotright said (he's right) increasing the surface area of the belt to pully might help, this could be done buy adding an iddler (works good on serp setups) or by going to a dual belt setup.
