Hello guys and gals,
I am thinking about to change the axles under my bronco to the ones Soviet military truck have http://legion.wplus.net/index.html?/.../tr/gaz66.html Wheel is 42" high and the axle weights close to 500 lbs. Gear ratio of these axles is 6,88 : <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">). Oh and with these axles I get also the airing system: <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">) OK...could anyone please tell me where I could get 12" lift coils, or who is making the custom ones? Or if anyone has those coils laying around in the garage, then let me know. Thanks,

be careful with the 12" lift coils. If a coil spring gets too long it can buckle. To prevent this they have to make coils that tall pretty stiff. The other way to prevent it is to mount them on a coil over shock. There are tons of shops that will make custom coils, but when they get that long you need someone who really knows what they are doing to help design them. I can't recomend anyone for that.

Do a Stacked coil overs.
Do a softer spring on top of a firmer spring. Let me know if when you are driving this on the street so I can stay home that day <IMG SRC="smilies/thefinger.gif" border="0"> - Dan

Won't the Rockwells from a US military truck be easier, and cheaper to get? Sure, it won't have the CIS, but I can't imagine what the axles off a Soviet truck would cost ya.
Myself, I'm getting a pair of Rockwell axles, tcase, and basically stripping a truck for my Bronco. I was sposed to take off an hour and a half ago, but the guy picking me up hasn't showed up yet. To give you an idea, I'm paying 400 bucks and a couple axles for all this. I've thought about trying to use a Ford 1/2ton 6" lift for mine, but that just won't hold up, period. I would agree with the majority here, and I'd get the coil-overs, if I could afford it. Doetsch Ent was just featured in Off-Road magazine about an affordable coil-over. I'd be checking into that, if those were in my budget. As it is, the hydraulic steering for mine will probly break me

Axles from a soviet truck will cost me $100 ... that's right a $100 for both, front and rear one. I live in Estonia, thats besides the russia and here are plenty of those axles just lying around <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Oh and hydraulic steering is already attached to the front axle by the manufacturer, so it is included in the price <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
I figured I would use leafs at rear and support them with traction bars, to prevent axle wrap. Up front I am planning to use either coils or leafs. Leafs would be easy, but I would like to use coils...more flex and better ride. Of course tac bars would be an issue in any case and some beefy custom radius arms, if coils should be choosen.

Recently bought a Gaz 66 for $150, it is fully functional and operational...another one came in for $70... <IMG SRC="smilies/smokin.gif" border="0"> Isn't it nice to live besides the russia <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> Technically the Russian machinery costs very little...if at all.
