Aod ?

For those of you with an AOD. Anyone really, I mean REALLY (don't lie now) abusing one, how? How is it holding up in what vehicle with what tires and gearing?

I did 15 1/4 miles runs in 30 minutes with my 5500lb Lighting Bronco.
I have the largest tranny cooler sold to the public

The AOD did not started to heat up, doesn't slip, but doesn't feel the same as before.
I need to upgrade

I have had mine in since 95 with extreme abuse, lots of trails and road use. I put the FMS low gear and heavy upgrade kit in it at the start. No problems, just make sure you have your pressures checked and set.

well IMHO all ford autos are junk..but the AOD is the queen of the pile..mine lasted less than 4hrs crawin with 32's and 3.27's

but then again I went through 2 C6's in a year..

your best bet is to get the EOD or shoot for a Mo5d or T5 manual..

unless your set on the AOD..then I would suggest as Fireguy said..biggest cooler and a FAN for it..a temp gauge would be advised as well..keep an eye on the fluid temps..

Burnin up transmissions like that, sounds like your wrenching skills are in question

An E4OD Trans will be a lot bulkier so room might be an issue, then there are the electronics you would have to deal with. Whats the application your thinkin of FearMe?

M5OD and T-5 are the two biggest POS ford 5 speeds out there

Nothing wrong with a AOD, you just have to put the right parts in them, a Shift kit goes along way. Lentech makes them that hold 1600HP, and 400HP in overdrive.
Talk to Bobby walter, he knows alot about building them.

nope..Bobby and I have a hard time keeping the AOD's living without surgery..I tore the same one apart so many times..I JUNKED it..and gave up on anything ford makes that takes transmission fluid..

and the 32's and 3.27 gears dont help the mix..

the m5 and t5 i've had seem to last ALOT longer than the autos..but the T18's weigh a ton..(and I didnt have one available at that time...the new one is sittin in the barn just waiting to be installed when the m5 syncros get cooked..) and I like the O/D for highway.
