A 78 F-250 will have a Dana 44 or Dana 60 front, and a Dana 60 rear.

Edit:
Did you find that old Ford in Germany???

All 79's are square headlights, and I believe that all 78's are round unless they are a Ranger package, or something like that...

ive found that the striped down models of trucks or broncos of this era have the round headlights but that just what ive seen. I picked up a parts bronco 78-79 era that was the lowest model not the ranger and it had the round headlights. I have a 79 bronco ranger and a 79 truck ranger both with square headlights.

lol...good one carnage!

Can you get a close pic of the top of either knuckle. If it has a ball joint, it's a 44. If it has a king pin set up its a 60. Either way, that body should not be run through much of anything. Wish I wouldn't have gotten rid of my 77.

If anyone needs parts for 70's or 80's trucks, I have some I'm getting rid of.

I picked up a pair of axles from a 78 F-250 and they were a HP D44 with flat tops and a D60 rear w/4.10 gears. Both leaf sprung. Great axles!!

Looks like a 44 front to me, doesn't hang low enough for a 60. To answer your question about grills and headlights, 79's were square, 78's were square, unless they were a custom, then they were square bezels with round lights.

That's a leaf sprung HP Dana 44 under a '78 F-250. Will have Dana 60 rear.
Poohbair was right about headlight configurations.
Carnage was dead on. Tell your friends.

A 44 has a hub diamater of 3 1/4" and the Dana 60's hub is 4"

Ford never used the square headlight, they were rectangular.
78 custom was all that got the round, any other trim level upgrade got the rectangular headlights and all 79 had them as well.
