Has anyone ever tried this or heard of it? Ford Ignition Question
On my 87 F-150 I swapped the blown In-line 6 for a 302, I have a 70's model MEXICO block, bored 40 over, flat top pistons with valve reliefs, a flat tappet cam and around a 90' model set of mustang heads that have been mildly worked, my problem lies in a miss that starts in mid RPM range and increases with RPM's. My ignition set up is still where i'm thinking the problem might be, here is how i've got it set up: After removing the in-line 6, i saved the plugin for the side mounted module type distributor, and after installing the 302, I just dropped in a late 80's model side mounted module type distrubtor and plugged it up, and used the Tower type coil that goes with this factory setup. When i first tried to get the engine cranked, it would hit but wouldn't start, after messing with it a bit, i tried removing the in-line spout connector, just to see if it would have anything to do with it, and wa lah it started and timing was able to be set with a timing light. I still had the 6 cyl. computer in the truck, until just recently I swapped that, but to no avil. The miss is still there, and all other problems have been ruled out, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and coil. I haven't tried another distributor, does anyone have any ideas? I'm also running a four barrell and just the common neccesity hook ups, nothing is hooked up for the computer, except the distributor, but it does still run excellent other than the miss.

Yup, you're not getting any advance wth the setup you have now. Swap it out to a DS-II distributor and be donw eith it.

I've also looked at the cross breeding option that is described on Bronco.com website, and that is called a HomebrewHEI. It has the diagram to wire up a Common Chevy Module with any Duraspark! The only real issue mentioned is the module getting hot if not mounted to some type of heat desipating device, and i located a aluminum cooling type device that had a module bolted on it originally, so i may try this instead of having to worry about burning the old untrusty Ford brainboxes up.

just say no to HEI, dursparkII is miles ahead of HEI.
Look at any jacobs or MSD setup, reminds you alot of a durasparkII setup, doesn't it?

The "old untrustworthy brainboxes" that fail often are usually aftermarket ones. I've never had a Ford one go bad yet, the one on my 460 is on it's 5th engine, 3rd vehicle... Now that I said that, it'll die tomorrow... LOL
As for using the HEI module with a DS-II distributor, that should work just fine, Haven't tried it myself yet though.

I'll agree probably all i've had to fail were probably aftermarket, also the thing we had on the V8 Ranger was, if you left the switch on for any amount of time, it would burn the box up. I have found different wiring diagrams since then, that should eliminate that issue though.
