EB high steer??? - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

Has anyone done or seen a high steer setup on an EB, or similar 44 front end, mine is an 89 Ranger with a 76 Bronco 44. I need help, my tie rod has been straightened too many times. I have at least one spare set of Ford outers to play with. Suggestions???

Thanks for the link, but what I was looking for was someone doing it with Ford outers,(re-tapering them) or someone putting high steer arms on top of the knuckle. I don,t know what I want, I just didn't want to have to change to GM brakes and throw away all of my knuckles...

And yes I've got tons of pictures, just no way to post them...

I drilled out the tapered holes in my knuckles used DOM tubing w/hyme joints over the top of the knuckles w/H.D. bolts works awsome!

Any pics? What size hiems? What did you drill the knuckles out to? What size tubing, I Have a lot of questions, a lot of ideas, I just want more facts before I start to drill, weld, or mill my knuckles..

well you can ream your knuckles from the top. No big deal. A local guy here makes tapered inserts, so you drill the knuckle to whatever size, drop in the insert and weld it, grind it smooth and you are set.

I pesonally think the cheby TRE's is a better way to go than heims. Just my .02

Here's the easy way to make your high steer. Go to your local steel supplier and order 8' of DOM tube. To size your tube, figure out how big you want to go then size your wall thickness so the ID is .6875 to .700 .This will leave the right size hole to tap 3/4" fine threads. If you do left and right you'll have an adjustable link. Next go to a Hot Rod type store ( Tognotti's )and get 4 3/4" Cromemoly hiem ends.You must get crmo or they'll be to weak and die, also get double lock nuts. Now measure,cut your tie rod and drag link. Make brackets on the top of the tie rod so your hiem joint is vertical . Drill 5/8" holes thru your all the rod connections, the use grade 8 hardware to bolt it all together. I made this set-up and its been thru the Con,Fordyce,and sledgehammer with out any problems. you can get a whole setup from www.performanceunlimited.com ......thats where i got mine..its a little expensive...but well worth it!

i just ordered mine this past week, I'm pretty stoked. How do you like yours so far? Did you get the standard, race proof or rock proof one? Looks solid!

i love mine!! they are very resiliant..i got the standard one, with the tie rod over knuckle setup...i have hit a few rocks with them , and they don't bend...the just flex back...its sweet...

oh..youll have to excuse the small tire in the picture...hehe..its the ont that came with the axle....lol
