The Dove-C heads are decent heads because of the smaller chambers and easier to get the compression up on the big turds Ford came out with in 1972 forward. If you are looking at selling any of it, I may be interested in the block depending on the casting numbers. If you REALLY want to know more about 429 engines, go to google and type in 385 series engine forum. This forum has anything and everything you ever wanted to know about 429s. |

325 brake HP at the flywheel on 100+ octane gas. That was measured the old way too. So figure 280HP or so, assuming its built to stock specs. Exhaust ports are weak link for high performance. Detonation problems are common at 11:1 10:1, and sometimes 9:1 as well. Carefully polish (grind) down the sharp edges of the combustion chamber. Dont go crazy, just BARELY make it so it isnt sharp. If the heads are not assembled/rebuilt yet, yank out the valves and keep track of where they go. Open up the valve pocket area to just under the size of the valve seat. Do not mess up and grind on valve seat. Some say to also grind off hump in exhaust port, others say leave it. There are tons more things to do, but I wont bother ya with em yet. No info on the pistons, are they flat tops, or are they dished? Hopefully they are dished, cuz high compression needs 91-92 octane to be happy, and with gas prices going nowhere but up, trust me you need to run the cheap gas. If you are extremely lucky, you might stubme onto a 4 bolt main block (highly unlikely) If you do, they are worth a grip of cash.
