73 Bronco 4-6" lift what do you recommend?

Just won an auction on e-bay and am wanting to fit bigger tires on this first and foremost BFG 35" Mt's most likely. Need some advice on who you bought from. (had good experiences w/ and what kit and why) Any issues you ran into along the way, thanks for your help. Shawn

I went with a bcbroncos 4.5" coils and deaver leafs. Any of the newer bronco specific retailers sell good kits. Just stay away from superlift, rancho, etc. if you want a softer ride.

No real hang-ups on a bronco suspension-- just onbolt the old and bolt in the new.

it's pretty easy to go to coils with radius arms in the rear as well if you're up for that.

Radius arms don't work in the rear, that's been well established.

I wouldn't go higher than a 3-1/2" suspenison lift. You can fit 35's with just the SL, but adding a 2" BL to that will make it clear very well, with minimal effect on the CG. Presently I clear 35" BFG's with only a 2" BL in the rear. Probably could in the front too, but I have 3-1/2" coils.

The BC products have gotten really great reviews, they are a Deaver linear rate coil, and the leafs they offer are also Deaver. Wild Horses stuff is known to sag over time, but also performs really well, their coils are progressive, the leafs are nice and squishy, and are made by National. JBG stuff is similar to the WH stuff. There's also Duffy's and Toms, but I don't personally know anyone running their new stuff.

I'm lowering mine to put on larger tires (2-1/2" SL, 2" BL, 38" TSL's)

my friend and i just installed some 5.5" Superflex deaver coils with deaver rear leaf springs and Cage radius arms. everything went on smoothly except for major binding in the front driveshaft. so far we havent really figured out a cheap way to fix it. just thought i let u know. we've talked to alot of shops and other bronco owners about our problems. many of them said this was normal and should of gone with 3.5" lifts.

not a factory front setup. custom arms with johnny joints at the frame, and heims at the axle.

If you got a good deal on this Bronco, think about selling it to someone that wants a full body, then buy one that is already cut. If you want 35s you will probably be cutting the rear and front fenders.

No, I'm really not kidding. Factory style radius arms used in the rear are pretty much a disaster. I suppose you might could modify them to work a little better, but with all that work, you may as well link it.

I've seen 3 or 4 of them in the last few years, and all of them got tossed in favor of a 3 or 4 link. The 'c' bushings just didn't do well with all that torque on them.

had you said "factory style" in your first post i would have agreed. but your blanket statement of "radius arems dont work in the rear" is complete BS.

The cage coils are killer off road and quite friendly on the street as well. His in house shocks are pretty sweet for the money as well.

OK thanks for your input, now without knowing the shape of this Bronco how can you base your opinion and tell me I need to sell it and buy another one with fenders already hacked? Just so you know yes if it was a $10,000 73 Bronco if in fact there are any I would not think of cutting the fenders but since it isn't one of those I guess I can wack em huh? This is my logic anyhow, not much of a resto guy if in fact it can be made better w/ mods. And wheeling it is my plan. Thanks Shawn

They're a relative newcomer to the aftermarket world, but they come with a lot of experience. Their lead designer worked for James Duff for years. Everything they've released has gotten rave reviews.
