Direct fit cataylitic converter does not fit 85 Ranger...
I bought a Maramont converter at Autozone that is supposed to directly bolt in.
It looks like the mounting flanges are correct but the air injection line on the side of the converter is different. Are you supposed to cut the original one and weld it to the pipe coming out the converter? Jason

the size difference is not surprising because the technology has been greatly improved over the years. 2 cats the size of coke bottles will clean up a 302 to essentially no emissions.
The different air injection tube is questionable. If you have the fab skills to make it work that's going to be much easier than trying to get the right one from autozoo. Otherwise I'd see what one of the other cheap places can do for you with regards to getting the right one. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if it was somethign that ford changed over the model year and didn't say too much... you might try year before or after to see if you get different model #s which would suggest that they were using up whatever they had on hand.
