do you want auto or manual?
Id get a ZF 5 spd, unless you want auto... then Id try to hook up a C6 to it.

If you want OD then ZF or E4OD are your choices. the auto won't be any harder since you will already have the computer for the engine and they are integrated.

If you don't need OD then C6 or t19 are your easy options without throwing adapters and such into the mix.

i would stay away from the E4OD. My dad has 160000 on the clock and hes on his third E4OD. Diesels tend to do that to auto trannies... esp when you haul or drive them rough...

why not use a f250 or an f350. there are more differences in the f150 and f250 than just the spring weights. the frames are made much thicker and are more capable of supporting the weight. The truck from this era all look the same and hell if you wanted you could slap some f150 badges on it.

these questions are too difficult to answer. You could probably find an 6.9 from a mid to late 80's ford for pretty cheap. they are simple to wire and get runner, but they are pretty gutless. You could get a 7.3 IDI from later model ford truck might be harder to wire and get installed. then there is the cummins and the powerstroke. Personally i'd go with a 12V cummins out of a dodge. Cost is one of the biggest questions marks in any project. You will most likely need a complete new drive train to support the weight and power that a diesel puts to the ground. Some guys get amazing deals on these things and could do it for 1500 bucks. But if you were to tackle something like this i would budget about 5000 it may not come close to that but there are alot of little things that add up quick.

it adds up quick. Even the cheapest projects cost more than what people admit to, especially if you add up stuff they "already had" and all of the small stuff they dont add in as well

There was a nice F-350 4wd 4-speed 6.9L for sale here a couple years ago. short wheelbase, 4 door and had a sidewinder kit. If the guy didnt want an insane amount of money($5000) I would be driving it now.

IMO, if your gonna spend the time, get a cummins. They weigh a few hundred pounds more but I dont think you will notice the difference if your gonna run a 6.9/7.3. If your mind is set on a f-150 you better box the frame up front at least or its gonna bust.
