14.3 mpg on the highway, 10-12 in town, anywhere from 7-12mpg while towing depending on load.

Edit: Specs on mine, 6640lbs empty. 3.55 gears, 33" tires, rest is in the sig. BTW, those numbers were checked via GPS, so I know they are right. One particular time while driving roughly 60mph for about 500mi I saw slightly over 15mpg

Henry Ford Didnt bless the 460

Yeah right dont run a 460 if your looking for fuel economy. they just dont get it. The engine im running now i only get about 5 or 6 just depends on how many hondas pull up to the stop light while im in town. On the other hand i used to have a 71 Ford Mercury with a 429 CJ and a holly 750. I got 22 MPG and could blow the doors off any hot rod camaro in town. Just an idea.

I think that is very nice considering I drive an 88 F-350 4X4 SRW with a 5.8EFI and a C-6 4.10's and 315/75R16 (35x12.5) average cruising speed about 60-65, rarely go over 75mph ever for any reason... no load in it just using it as an every day driver it gets about 6.5mpg if I drive it, my old lady can somehow make it get 7.8 just driving back and forth to work, and one time she actually made it get 8.2 I really don't know how... if you spend a day offroading and crawling around in low range it gets about 4-5mpg, same thing if you try to pull weight, I used to have a 1973 Holiday Rambler 28' camper, I don't know the weight of the camper, but it had 2 axles, and was made of mostly wood, so I know it was heavy... heavy enough to rip a class 3 out of the truck when I floored it over a whooptie-doo cuz I started to get stuck in the soft sand...

I have been told that the reason the 460 got better milage is because it didn't have to strain all the time to get out of it's own way, and the 351w does

the 351 also has Bassani performance Y-pipe 3 inch straight pipe with no cat, and a mild pulling cam in it, the F-450 was stock and had way more power than my 351 ever dreamed, or ever could in it's wildest wet dream, and the 460 got almost twice the milage. the F-450 was a work truck and I didn't have to pay for the fuel, so I really didn't care, but I bet if I drove it like I drive my F-350 it would probably get like 14-15mpg

so in conclusion if you want economy don't run a V-8 period or a drive a truck or anything with 4wheel drive for that matter how ever if you do plan on pulling anything and want something semi economical get a diesel, or if you really want a gasoline V-8 definately go with a 460 don't skimp out and get a small block thinking you are saving, come to think of it, screw small blocks all together if your truck weighs over 3000lbs even if you don't plan on pulling anything, nobody says you need to use every last horse under your hood just because you have them, and just because something gets shitty gas milage does not mean it is strong, or fast, and just because something gets over 10mpg doesn't mean it's for pussies

What does that have to do with my post

85 F250hd, ex cab long bed 4x4, 4.10's, 33's, no OD, small crane cam, edelbrock intake, headers, true duals with no cats, some exh porting, and 600 AFB, gets about 9 around town, 11-12 highway around 65 and 7-9 towing. My dad had a 95 F250hd/auto, all stock and got 13 highway and about 9 around town. It doesn't pull as nice as a PSD, but it's right in my price range!

I agree with you completly on the first part big block in a big truck will be better than a small block in that same big truck.

I agree and disagree with you here it just depends which people think they have bad azz shlt. I have a 514 thats blown and juiced in my truck (and yes its taken 10 years and lots of money to build) ive gotten it up to 10mpg but had the timing way retarded and it ran like shlt. running like i like it i get max 5mpg but i can run 13.50's in the 1/4 mile in a 8,500lb truck. im not tryin to disagree with you im just saying sometimes power comes with a price at the pump. but so does junk. so your right both ways.

We have an 87 f-350 and it gets about 8mpgs no matter how loaded it is. Pulling a heavy ass overhead camper and a trailer with a buggy I am suprised how well it pulls it's weight. The way I look at it is we only use it to go wheeling and the amount we spend on gas is way cheaper than a new truck payment. Sure a new truck with an oilburner would be sweet I would rather spend my money on our buggies.

The only thing that I need to fix now is the steering column is screwed up and can't shift into 1st or 2nd gear. Anyone know how to fix this? we were thinking of just putting a floor shifter in it and call it good. Good steering columns seem to be pretty hard to find around here.

It still has the factory holley which we rebuilt, any reccommendations on a good carb for it? I am also considering putting an RV cam in it. It has a 150k and is still tight as a french whore Hasn't been started in about a year and it fired right up

I know quarter mile times dont impress off roaders but i use it as a put down to street racers and imports. i have been driving my truck every day for about 5 years. not only will it out drag a honda itll allso pull its ass off. I get called at least 20 times on the weekends "come pull me out" Its an all around truck cus thats the way i built it. Itll haul ass, climb rocks, throw mud for miles, and pull every one else out of that big ass hole no one knew was there

88.5 F-250 HD 4x4 5 speed years ago got 13-15 highway, about 10 around town unloaded. 3.55 gears. Was always looking for another gear. A 6 speed would have been great with a taller OD. Sold her with just under 200k on it. It was getting a bit tired at that point.

'77 F250 4x4 with a mild 10:1+ motor, 1 7/8" headers into 3" primaries out 3" mandrel bent pipes, 4.10 gears, NP435, 285/75/16's 10MPG. Same truck with 36x14x16.5 swampers, about 8MPG.

I personally think that ANY properly tuned V8 in a light duty pickup (F150-350) should get a minimum of 8 mpg, unloaded, while expecting 10MPG to be the norm with normal street tires, without racing the thing.
