front d60 axle removal

'02 super duty d60 hp front axle. can anyone give pointers on removing axleshafts after unit-bearing hubs have been removed? i'm tearing this axle down to clean/rebuild, and it's my first axle job. also, is dynatrac the way to go for converting from unit-bearing to traditional hub/spindle setup? planning to convert to 8 on 6 1/2 and hope to run chevy brakes to match rear setup. anyone who has done this, i'd love to know what brake setup you're using and any issues you ran into. thanx.

Hmm...tried pulling?

Seriously though, i've used this guide on my front end rebuild and it helped a ton: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=354091

On Edit: Wait, is the axle still hanging off of the F-250, or is it a loose unit?

Send a message via AIM to wilber
use 2 pry bars behind the ujoint to pry the axle out. The axle seal is tight for vacume hubs. Dynatrac is the only ones that i know of that run the convertion for the new 60s

so there are no c-clips or anything holding the axleshafts in place inside the diff.? a friend told me he thought there were, but I couldn't see any. he said I need to remove the side/spider gears to get to them. the inner & outer shafts come out through the outer knuckle, don't they? I don't want to remove the outer knuckles if I don't have to . appreciate your input.
Thanx,
Darren

Well are those the auto/ manual hubs? If they are then did you try prying? They shouldnt be c clip axles.

Thank you for your help. Tried a prybar and they did indeed come out without too much effort. Now, will the seal(?) or bearing(?) on the stub axles come off easily or are they pressed on. I don't want to damage them when removing. I'll be upgrading to 35 spline stub axles when I rebuild so I'm assuming I won't be using those seals anyway, right?
