C-clip eliminator kit for 8.8.

I have talked to a few reliable sources and have been told that the common c-clip eliminator kits are not recommended for hard off road use.Something about the billit bearing housing or flange bolts failing? Is there any truth to this?

I know its common to weld on the 9" ends and use the 9" axles but the labor is more than swapping in a entire junkyard 9!

This is for my BII with a 91-94 explorer 31-spline 8.8.I already have money into it(custom driveshaft and gears with total rebuild.)so i dont really want to do a 9" swap.Do i have any other options?Im guessing that i dont...

What about the super 8.8 kit from Superior? I understand that there are other kits in the works as well.

The new superior "Super 88" kit. 4340 31 spline shafts, and no more C-clips. At $540, it might not be cheaper than a stock junkyard 9inch. But if you already have $1000 in gears and lockers in your 8.8 it is prolly cheaper than a 9 inch + gears, locker, and chromo shafts.

If you have access to the October issue of Petersens, there is a writeup on the install of these shafts in an 8.8.

Edit : too slow!

I,ve seen that before.I might consider it but it too use a c-clip E kit.So im not sure what im gonna do.I have a brand new spool already. So i can either sell the spool and keep the c-clips or run the kit.

From what i,ve heard the kit cannot take side loads well?Intended for drag/strip?

No info, but that is what CURRIE and ProGear recommended.Try giving them a call.
I think i'll end up going with the Superior kit.Since it includes upgraded shafts then i can justify the cash.

Just saw the Super 88 kit at the Off road expo last weekend, looks like a quality kit.

X2 on the Superior kit. C-clip eliminator, and increases axle width. Nuthin' wrong with that.

I might be wrong here, as i haven't researched this topic much, but the Super 88 kit does not use a C-clip eliminator kit. It replaces the stock c clip axles entirely as well as the axle ends with no c-clip style axles. As far as i know a c-clip eliminator kit uses stock axles and relies on a pressed on bearing only to resist side to side loading. Which is why it is fine for a dragster, but not a 4wd type aplication.

The Super 88 kit is the essentially the same thing as 9" outers on an 8.8.

This is true.
Another benefit to this set up is if you do happen to break an axleshaft, it will be retained by the 9" style bearing assy. plus you can change an axleshaft without having to take off the diff cover and remove the c-clip(s) unless you have to retrieve a broken piece of shaft.
