I believe that '01 was the first year that the latch system was offered by manufacturers and '02 was the first year it was mandated. The latch system uses a built in strap on the car seat and two tether points burried down by the seatbelts, it is really simple to use, but can be a PITA to get the straps back unhooked.

I know what the "LATCH" system looks like....is it similar? I looked but didn't see it. Got truck used, is it a dealer option?

I would have to assume that the "LATCH" system you refer to is the same as the latch system I refer to since they have the same name, just evidently one comes in caps and quotes, and the other in lower case.

I have no idea if ford offered it as an option, they may and they may offer it as a free install as well like they did with the tether thing in the first few years it was out. I do believe that '01 is the first year the latch started showing up in vehichles though. Go to the dealer and ask, otherwise go to your local police station and ask them to show you how to install the seat, they will do so for free.

Yeah, I though LATCH was an acronym for something.

Thanx.

I hate to ask such stupid question, but did you read the manual that came with the seat?

Here's some good reliable information: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/inju...tml/LATCH.html

Note the first sentance in the intro. "Eighty percent of child safety seats are used incorrectly." I work at a repair shop and from what I see that statement is probably an understatement.

More good information: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/inju...yFeatures.html

Keep those kids safe!

You can also take it by any Fire Station and they'll be glad to show you the proper way to do it for your vehicle. They hold child safety seat clinics all the time.
