EARLY BRONCO'S w/ auto's ???'ss
Just wondering if there is a lower rate of Dana-20 output breakage or any breakage with an auto tranny?
Anyone knows of anyone who runs an auto and has broken their Dana-20 output and the details?

just the fact alone auto's are way easier on parts than a stick becuase you dont have the tendacy to dump the clutch like you can with a stick shift
so a good guess would yes there less breakage with the auto . ive got an aod to dana 20 been runnig it for almost 2 years no breakage yet knock on wood

I have a c4/d20 and have wheeled the piss out of it-no breakage at all. I would agree that an auto is easier on parts. I have only seen one d20 output break and that was with an EB w/44s, np435, and a hot motor and he was on it hard.
My $.02, YMMV, etc., etc., etc.

A guy in our club blew up the rear output last summer on his '76 EB with a C4/Dana 20, but in that situation he was making a very steep climb up a rock, blew up one of the front shafts and the output less than a second later. It was sort of a freak occurance, but there ya go...

That guy'd better have hoped that he had an E-Brake! Scary!
I agree, all parts will benefit from an auto as it is easier on them. There isn't the shock that is associated with releasing the clutch. It's easier to break something in half by hitting it than pressing on it. Hey Tonto, do you know what your name means in spanish? Not good man. -Jack

We were wheeling a a place called Funny Rocks and Joe was trying to climb up a rock face that was near verticle, and just tall enough that his front tires weren't quite up and over before the rears tried to start climbing. He was starting to make some progress when the front shaft snapped, his rear were still spinning when he slid back down a foot or so to solid ground. THe spinning rear tires got traction all of a sudden and there went the output. At least that is what it looked like form the sidelines...
