ok. well what im trying to figure out is how the speedo gear is indexed with the rear output shaft. on a chevy shaft the speedo gear slips over splines to keep it from spinning. on the 32 spline ford shaft i recieved to replace my chevy shaft there are no splines. the speedo gear spins freely on the shaft. does the yoke hold it by means of compression?

If my memory serves me correct, I believe there is a locking spring clip that holds the spedo gear in place. The spedo gear should have a key way in it that the spring clip sits in longitudinally. Then there should be a small hole in the output shaft where the spedo gear goes, that’s where a small tang in the spring clip locks in so that it doesn’t free spin. Once again, it’s been a few years since I’ve had my 205 open, so this is going off of memory.
