Good 4x4 cam

I am trying to decide on a cam for my project I am doing. It's going to have an almost stock 302. Intake and headers are the main difference. Just trying to decide on what came to put in. What range of RPM etc. New to this whole cam thing so figured I would post a question here. The vehicle will be a daily driver but will also be used for some mild 4x4.

I ran a Melling MTF-5 cam in my mostly stock 302. It's a great towing/RV/torque cam. It's the same grind many manufactures sell as a RV cam, FRP, Summit, Melling, Edelbrock.

I'm running a Comp Extreme 4x4 cam, the lowest range one they have (I think its idle-5000). It pulls great from 500 to 5000rpms.

X2 on the 4X4 Extreme cam. I had them grind me one for my 400 (262/270). It has alot more usable power then th 270 magnum cam that I started with.

Thanks guys for the replies. It sends me in the right direction. I' ll maybe source up some sort of RV cam maybe and give it a whirl. If it doesnt work like I want I'll try something else. Will give me something to do on rainy days.

For your mission profile, any cam marketed for RV or 4x4 application would work just fine. We could argue fine points all day, but for what you are using it for the subtle differences between the different offerings just won't matter. With that said, I've had good luck with the cheep Summit store brand cams. I've never used a name brand cam so I can't give a good opinion one way or the other.

I ran a cam I had INSKI grind to the specs of the old Ford 260. You couldn't stop the engine at idle, but it would fall on its face at 4500.

I guy told me once to, pick the cam you want then go to sizes smaller . and its good advise ,

Better to have one run off a little short than have one with to high of a rpm range. just my 2 cents
