i want more MPG when i drive around, and more power for pulling does that help?

Push it off a cliff.
It won't pull the hat off of your head. I had one as a company truck, it was a turd. That 6.0 in the Chevy was a welcome upgrade. The 5.4 doesn't have enough stuff to move around a truck that heavy, much less pull a big load. Keep in mind that it's only a ~330ci engine. By the time you put a bunch of money into it to make it do what you want, you'd be money ahead to go ahead and sell or trade it for something else better suited for your needs.

You'd be looking down the barrel of a complete drivetrain swap. Much bigger tranny and x-fer case (if applicable) in the diesel, not to mention the front suspension upgrades to facilitate the extra beef. You may do just as well to trade it in on another truck if you're daunted by that much work. 7.3's are still holding their value, pretty well from what I've seen too. With the 6.0 being so undesirable, folks are hanging on to their precious 7.3's. You may also consider a Cummins 5.9 swap for roughly the same money, and seemingly infinite 'bomb-ability'. Put a NV4500 or 5600 behind it and you'd have a hell of a tow rig. Info on the Cummins swap at: http://fordcummins.com/ Hey, if you have a ZF5 or 6, you can adapt that to the Cummins as well.
