so i blew the front axle in my 88 F250 truck in the woods this weekend....i want to replace the front axle with a straight axle...i know i can pick up a f350 D60 axle that will bolt right in pretty much but i haven had any luck finding one locally...i can find the 78 79 d44 and d60 pretty easy though...so the question is what will it take to put one of them into my truck...i know the spring perches and shock mounts will need to be welded on in the right spots but is there anything else i am overlooking? will the front shaft work still or need shortening/lengthening?? will the stock draglink/tierod work?? thanks
OK maybe i shouldnt have said "bolt in" but the f350 d60 is a fairly easy swap into the truck since it already has leafs up front.....thats not the question though...since i cant find that axle what is it gonna take to put a older 78-79 d44 or d60 into the truck...i can find them easy enough here...i know there are differences in them but anything major thats gonna hold me up from putting it into a 88 f250?
Your going to have move the spring perches farther out. The frames are wider from the firewall forward on the 80 and up trucks. I believe its a 36" spring spacing compared to 32" on the late 70s trucks. Thats really all you have to worry about.
