My friend is moving and needs to sell his '99 3/4 ton F-250 4x4 with the 7.3 ASAP for $5K. It's no beauty but all in all it seems to be a decent truck for the price. The motor has 411K miles on it, the tranny was replaced at 250K, and the T-case is 3 mo old. Does anyone know how many miles that motor will last if it was regularly maintained and what it would cost to completely replace it if it crapped out? Also, what else should I look for? Its hard to pass this one up. Thanks.
With over 400K on the clock, I would probably stay away from it. That's pushing it...but if they are kept in tip-top shape, the 7.3's can last for 750K + miles.
But like "bigford" said, it's probably due for some major (expensive) work. Glow plugs, bearings, sleeves, injectors, ect...
