Well, I started 5/23/07. Put the bronco on stands(need those taller ones from HF)Got the front axle, suspension, and steering all out the way. Should have the rear axle out tonight. I have a set of '77 front/rear axles from a F150. Plann to cut the rockers out in place of some slides. Got hydro boost to install...maybe hydro assist steering too.Caddy rear disc.
Will post pics later as I go.
Few questions : Dont like the radius arm bushings @ the frame(no flex) what does everone else run? I'm thing of going back to the stock rubber ones...now I have the polys. I have the longer radius arms from Bronco Bod(all for fun offroad-older version).
what do ya'll do for tie rod/drag link...thinking of using Parts Mike? What about the track bar also? Thanks guys,Chuck
I run those bushings and love them but I am a wristed arm, not extended. If I was extended I would run a Currie Johnny joint at the frame.
It took me a minute to notice the front tires steering all wrong because I was looking at the rear. It looks like the one back tire is there and normal but the housing is gone after the pumpkin.
started on the rock sliders last night. still have to pressure wash the front donor axle before cutting starts. So...off with those rockers.
gonna try to get the other side off, and at least weld one of the sliders in place. Does anyone suggest bracing under or behind the new 2x4 square tube slider?
if you want a little better flex with the rad arms you can make them a little longer with tube and then use heims or jonny joints on the end of them with some new mounts on the frame.
Do you have to make any changes to the axles if you stay with the radius arms?
Since these axles are wider than the stock EB Bronco D44.
Or is that an added benefit with the full width axle change out?
sorry guys, been stripping out the HPD44...getting it ready to move radius mounts. I can use the longer arms I have for better flex...not as good as duff, cage,or johnny joints, but better than stock. I really want that wider stance for off camber times. Just found, the case has been fixed...I guess the center pin came out one time or another...just something else that needs fixing. Cut the driver side rocker out today will post some more pics later.
WHITE RHINO, thanks...nice build ya did! I'm still on a budget. Trying to get those chromos 1st. Still not sure what I'll be able to do w/steering.
Looks very close to what I did before. Don't even deal with dumbassed bayonette bushings anymore. Go ahead and add a joint of some sort to save yourself some headaches later.
That is the reason I carry an old set of ball joints with the rest of my trail spares.
Here is a slick way of building arms with joints in the end, if I was going to fab some it is the way I would go and it should be fairly straight forward to mod the ones you have or just sell them and build a set.
that looks like a pretty bad break. how did you get it out of the trails?[/QUOTE]
once the panic was out of the way...it was easy I bent both the inner/out shafts...the inner flipped again and knocked the knuckle right off...not sure if either of the clips were on the ball joints. I took everthing apart, used a file to clean up the b-joints,reinstalled the joints into the knuckle, then reinstalled to the axle. Took 1.5 hrs to fix total-drove out w/3 wheel drive:grinpimp:
well seems like nothing is going right for me here. I was told ya just move the radius mounts in 3"s...now it looks like the radius mounts are 1" narrower(sp) than stock. What sucks, is I have already ground, welded, and cleaned all the old marks and welds. The mounts arent welded completely-just tacked. Guess I need to move them again. Anyone now how much they have to go...maybe 2.5"???:mad3:
been reallly busy last couple of days, but got to work some today on it. finished cutting the driver rocker out, finally got the radius arm mounts moved to the right spot and fully welded them in place. took it all back out, so I can patch that spot on the chunk.Chuck
http://stonecrusher.classicbroncos.com/index.html Check this guy out. He is awesome to deal with. His product is top notch and a hell of a lot cheaper than performance, but you get the same quality. You can call him on the phone and talk to him and not feel like you're bugging him. (Unlike the other guys)
Got the axle housing fixed, got the pass side rock slider in and welded. Picked up a set of newish 38"TSL's and some soft doors/ 1-piece inserts. Ordered the front 4.56's-should be here in a few days. once those are installed, the D44 will go back in for good. Will post some pics here soon,Chuck
When yall coming to River Rock?To the open ride at the end of the month? I was there 2 weeks ago. Steve got track hoe happy again. On most of the trails. It was hot as fire down there. Alot of people cooled off in the river.
I guess I suck at the build threads! It took way too long and too many problems to list. Hope you guys can enjoy some pics. Today was it's 1st day out of the garage...5 plus months later:flipoff2:
here's a quick run down of parts...
