C4 without kickdown

Can i run a C4 without the kickdown?

I searched over in the C4 section at fordmuscle.com and it doesnt seem like anyone agrees. Most claim that the kickdown doesnt affect line pressure in the C4, but there are a few that disagree which makes me worry. I'm no tranny expert, but it seems to me the whole idea behind a kickdown is to give full line pressure at full throttle.

Its a C5 with a transgo 40-3 (full manual) shift kit if that matters.

If it has a full manual valve body I wouldnt think it would need a kick down. I dont think the kick down has any affect on the line pressure....

even if you didnt have a full manual valve body, you dont need kick down cable. its vacuum controled. so you can run no kick down cable and be totally safe.

The kickdown is just a mechanical version of the vacuum modulator. They control the governer body to delay the upshift. The vacuum modulator delays it under hard throttle to run out the lower gears. The mechanical kick-down manipulates the body in the exact same manner, but it does this so the lower gear leads the acceleration so the tranny doesn't become bound from torque and shift erratically or unpredictably, theoretically that is. Although there will be a minor delay before the modulator down shifts for you, if you remove the kick-down and drive it for a couple of weeks, I'll bet you won't even know its missing. Its probably not the best thing you can do for the tranny, but even on the long list of bad things we do to our rigs, I think this one would be on page 2.

When I got my c-4 back from my trans guy the kickdown lever was cut off and he told me that I did not need to hook up the vac. mod. This is with a full manual rev. valve body.

That would be correct. Full manual valve body does not route through governor, therefore no input for speed(rpm of output), load(manifold vacuum) or throttle position(kick-down) is relevant to it.
