What's this front Axle?
Saw this truck at a used car dealership last week & was wondering what this axle is? I've never seen one like it before. That steering looks pretty scarry though!

Not particularly, just about everyone prefers a solid axle.

hey it's metal covering the diff. just because you can't unbolt the piece of metal doesn't make it not a diff cover.
![]() so what do you do, pull the gears out like a 9" third member or what? |

They got potential...
Put some decent steering on it (and some good springs) and they'll pretty much keep up with anything else. Solid axle-like flex is pretty easy to attain, which is something not true with any other IFS (desert prerunner guys are all over these things, as they actually kick butt over solid axles in fast whoop-de-doos, and are far cheaper to build than an a-arm truck would be). The jacked-up steering on that one above looks like a tire-eating mess though (which unfortunately, that is quite common with most of the bolt-on liftkits like what's on that thing). ![]() Quote:

Best answer yet... but other than someone hinting at the type of axle... no ones answered your question.

Good point on it still being a diff cover though.

isn't this the Ford forum? i'm a Jeeper but I know what a D44 TTB center is.
![]() those covers are thicker than your standard D44 cover (even thicker than a front D44 cover), a good replacement for standard rear D44 covers.

Dunno. It's been saved for a few years. I don't remember anything about it.

TTB axles DO NOT have diff covers....
Unless you count the entire damn beam as the diff cover Or you are a complete idiot like one guy, and cut a hole where the diff is, and install a diff cover. Doing this TOTALLY weakens the structural integrity of the beam.

Not to mention, no, I didnt consider doing it, I have seen it done, and was saying what happens in case someone was considering themselves. Back off your "I am smarter than you jackass" high horses, and actually take time to think about what someone is trying to say fucktard!
