460 rebuild question
I've got a '70's 460, and a '71 429. The crank in the 460 is bad, but the rest of the block has only about 300 miles on a complete rebuild.
The crank in the 429 is good. I know that the 2 cranks are interchangeable, but my question is can I just take out the 460 crank and put in the 429 crank with a new set of bearings (in the block that's currently a 460)? Or do I have to have something done to the 429 crank to make the rods and mains not get eaten up. Thanks, -Brian |

If the crank pins and mains are the same diameter then all you have to do is get the bearing clearance right. Also I think the 429 crank has a shorter throw than the 460 so longer rods may be needed.
cant remember if it was diffrent bore or stroke.

The pistons are different? Crap. I assumed they were the same.
Just for the sake of knowledge, assuming I had 2 460 cranks (both balanced internally), could I swap them in the same engine with only a bearing change? |
