B2 sas & 42's
well, first off, this has been a project of mine staring when i originally got the bronco at the age of 16, now 21 i believe its time for a real wheeler... and a build up thread so people can critisize and compliment...
quicky... bought the bronco stock... lifted it with custom made blocks front and rear got 50% 36" tsl's and man they were the shiz...lol gutted the interior built a rollbar bought some 2x2 tubing and all thread and made my body lift.. and eventually put a 4" susp. lift under it blah..blah..blah.. I drove it, broke it, and ocasionaly fixed it.. BUILD UP hp 44 front 538's- cause a 60 is to much early bronco lift coils, progressive rate move axle about 8 inches forward build custom crossmember/skid plate dana 60 rear, welded up also 538's be running the stock 2.9 and tranny transfercase untill something blows up... then, i will figure out what to upgrade to... i have a fealing, transfercase wont last long... THIS WAS LIKE THREE OR FOUR YEARS AGO.. ![]() ![]() CLEANED IT UP BEFORE STARTING THE BUILD ![]() SAT IN THE GARAGE FOR WAY TO LONG LIKE THIS.. ![]() AND THEN I FINALLY ORDERD SOME STUFF FROM BALLISTIC... ![]() ![]() WELDED THEM UP ![]() TO GET MY COIL PAD/LINK BRACKET ![]() I ORDERED ALOT MORE STUFF... HIEMS, BRACKETS, TABS, BUSHINGS.. ETC AND I GOT TO WORKIN HARD.. ONCE THE STUFF SHOWED UP... LIKE A MONTH LATER.. week ago....

in his defense, an unlocked hp d44 under a gutted looking b2 with a stock powertrain will probably do ok with 42s on most of the trails in Washington. i've seen stock axled toyotas with the about the same size tires hold up. i'm assuming your from Washington? it looked like you were at reiter in a few of those pics and that white explorer in the background looks like its got WA plates.

I would say if you buy some good aftermarket shafts and axle joints
with stock drivetrain and being that light .Even with a locker you should be safe. I know a few guys with cj7s runing 38 an 40's with v8's that have been that way for years and still going. One guy just runs warn stubs spicer 297 axle joints and stock inners with 38 sx tires.Last time I talked with him he was still runing that same set up. |

yes i know the 44 wont be the best with the 42's, but for now its what i could afford, and ill be easy on it for a bit relizing its not the strongest, and the truck is gutted, relitivly light rig. I have my eye out right now for a whole truck with a 60, and then part the truck out, or throw a 44 in it and sale it, cause i have 2 more 44's for parts..
HERES THE LINKS GOT THEM WELDED UP THE OTHER NIGHT, AND ALMOST HAVE THE CROSSMEMBER ALL WELDED UP. ![]() GOT MY GEARS AND NEW CARRIER. 538'S WHAT ARE PEOPLES THOUGHTS??? IM I GONA BUST THE PINION LIKE ITS NOTHING???? ![]() ![]() ![]() THIS WAS THE DAY I BOUGHT SOME AXLES A COUPLE WERNT MINE THOUGH![]() GOT MY 44 ALL CLEANED UP AND STRIPPED ![]() any comments are great... im young and dumb so helpme out..lol |

Whats up with that puny ass pinion?? I am running 5.38's as well (same drive train), in a 10.25. I dont think it will be a problem...
Oh, a dana 60 rear... I would lose that axle all together. I doubt thats what you want to hear, having just bought gears... I would personally look for a 10.25, dana 70, even a corp 14. Other than that, looks like you are making some good progress. Last edited by Nor Cal Wheelin; 04-29-2009 at 08:14 PM. |

Looks like you guys are having a little too much fun....haha
I would upgrade your "overkill" 3/4" bolts to grade 8. Its too late now, but try and keep as much separation as possible between bolt holes as well.

If you havent bought gears, then I would look for a rear axle. You can get them outta pick n pull for around $100. I know about being broke, I am broke as hell right now. But its pointless to build something twice, when it doesnt cost much more to do it once.
I have never had a dana 60 pinion fail on me, just a shit ton of shafts and a ring gear. I think the ring gear was an installation error, but who knows... It broke. I am sticking with the 10.25's, they have better clearance than a dana 60 and bigger shafts, etc. Dana 70's are strong, corp 14's get praised about all day long. Pics are looking killer though. X's 2 on the bolt separation and x's 20 on the grade 8's. Last edited by Nor Cal Wheelin; 04-30-2009 at 11:12 AM. |

034x4 ran a set of 42" Iroks (IIRC could have been 40's) on his ranger with a D44 front and I think he has 5.38's also, Im pretty sure he stripped out the pinion. Im surprised he hasnt mentioned it.

I agree that the 44 will break, but carry spares and wheel it. I had superiors and CTMs in mine, but in hindsight that cost would've bought a 60.
