More 6.0 problems???

Ive got an 04 F250 with a 6.0, its only got 55k on it, i wasnt having any problems with it up until a week ago. i pulled up to a stop sign and when i went to take off i hit the petal but the engine stayed at about 600rpm.
i turned the truck off for about 30 second then started it back up and it was good to go. then down the block, it fell to idle and did it all over. This happened 4 timesuntil i could get the truck to the side and park it.

Im going to hook up diagn to see what it is but wanted to see if anyone else has had the problem.
Thanks

There's a shit ton of things that will make a 6.0 quit like that. I wouldn't even think about owning one without a good scan tool in the glovebox at all times lol... Pull some codes on it and report back.

If you want a good scan tool (not just generic ), I'd try Palmers Scan XL for use with a laptop. It will access most of Fords modules, abs, air bag, gem and such. Plus it gives live data. I use to use it quite a bit for 7.3s but haven't tried it on a 6.0 since I bought the IDS. I think it'll set you back about $250 if you pay for it, but since you own a 6.0 you'll get your moneys worth.

Cool, thank you.
i borrowed a scanner from a buddy at work, i will give it a shot.
If i end up buying one i will look into the one you mentioned.
it would pay for itself on the first use, the local ford dealer here charges 250 just to hook up and read.

I plugged in, turned the key then scanned.
I got the code P0401.
But then when i unplugged the scan tool then turned the truck on, the check engine light turned off.
So i scanned it again and got no code.
im going to drive it down the drive way to see if i cant get it to come on again then scan.

It sound like it went into "limp home" mode. Do a Google search for that code # and see what you can come up with.

I got a 6.0 in the shop right now with a blown up turbo, bad injectors, egr valve, and a faulty injector driver module. Its a POS, and I have a Dodge that's running great and that's what I pull with because I am scared of the "time bomb 6.0". Good luck with your truck.

I googled the code (P0401) and go the OBDII site to troubleshoot.
The code is insufficient EGR Flow.
But after i scanned it the code cleared and now the scan tool wont find anything and i took the truck down the driveway and still have problems and no check engine light comes on and didnt scan any codes.

6.0's are notorious for having EGR problems. Clean it or I have heard about a process where they hook up something to the engine and apperently it will make your tailpipe look like a 1920s coal plant but will clean all the crap out of the engine. I think the thing is made by BGproducts and you need to find someone locally that has one because its real expensive to but but 2-300 bucks for the cleaning.

you could always delete it also

Sound like it need a new pedal assemble(as long as there was no smoke when you where hitting the gas). I have seen it before they will only idle when it lose the signal as far as the pcm know you are not giving it any fuel

Cool, thank you.
i will check on a new pedal assembly, but would that affect the hesitation in throttle? or the low lugging RPMs. it usually idles at about 650 but when it starts acting up ive seen it at the low 400s.

As far as the EGR issues, i did just clear it and will be replacing the EGR tube and valves. Ford had a more rectangular EGR tube that tends to clog often, it has been recomended that if possable it can be replaced with a more tubular piece.

I've seen the pedal thing as well. I even remember some weird problem where the vehicle speed sensor goes crazy and throws it into a limp mode causing the same sort of situation.
Idle in the low 4's sounds more like an ICP sensor to me.

What you need is a scan tool that can access data. When it acts up see what the throttle position says it's at, if it's going carzy it's probably the pedal assy. When it acts up look at icp as well as ipr and see what they're doing. Also see what VSS is at, If it says you're doing 60 mph while your parked, you might have that weird vss problem. Scroll through all the data and look for something that just isn't right.
The 401 code that you got won't affect idle so I wouldn't worry about that just yet. The only way egr will change idle is if it gets stuck open.
