9" mini spools are dirt cheap. Ive seen them work great and fail spectacularly. It really depends on your HP and gearing, but Id say a light mud rig with 150-200hp would be just fine with a minispool.

Fawk that... I would use a full spool. Like stated, it could work great for you... But I can speak from personal experience, when they let go... They let go.

Mine let go with very little motor, in a very light rig, with very deep gears. Took out everything, literally.

***Edit, I wasn't in the mud... I am allergic to that shit. Might work great.

I ran a minispool in a nine inch with no issues. 79 f150 with a 351m and 35" swampers. Oh, and screw a detroit, get an aussie. Never had a single issue with mine and it was cheap.

What gears are you running?

If 4.11, 3.50 or another common gear set I'd run the mini spool.

Then get an extra 3rd from the junk yards as a spare. If you shop around both should be under the price of a full spool.
Then when you've some extra money buy the full spool and a Nodular case.

I had a mini spool once. It was installed by the previous owner in a diff I bought.
It's now a ball of 7018. I lucked out and caught it checking before a big event. It was about to shear into many more pieces.

I wouldn't have installed a mini spool before. And now I will defiantly never choose to install one in the future.
