I'd get the winch in the back of the truck first, then figure out how to mount your stuff in the bed. Don't want it to be in the way of the cable when you're trying to pull yourself out of a hole. BTW, x2 on the shear pin so you don't snap your driveshaft with the winch PTO.

I am thinking I might use the winch in a different truck. I need bed storage more than a rear winch right now. I have an 86 F-350 crew cab 4x4 that I might build into an offroad recovery/tow truck and use the pto winch for that. The H1 beadlocks and 37's for the 86 should be here tomorrow! I'm pumped.

Ford powerstroke air boxes are notorious for not sealing very well. It is a napa air filter with a few little mods. It seals the dirt out alot better and allows more air flow.

[IMG][/IMG]

Tonight I started to do a little work to the flatbed. I decided to wait on paint until I get it fully done. I broke out the torch and cut the chipped and broken ring gear from my blue trucks dana 44. It will locate the tool box and not let it slide around. I used some spades to locate the cooler.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

I then used some old carrier bearing races from old blue's dana 44 for the ratchet strap hold downs. I cut them in half with my grinder and cut off wheel.

[IMG][/IMG]

Here they are welded on. I tried them out with bungee cords but I will probably use rachet straps. I am going to mount a couple ammo cans in the spare area you see here. I will put spare bolts, nuts, washers and various small parts I need. I will fill the other one with spare oils I will need.

[IMG][/IMG]

I havent decided yet what I am going to use for the cooler hold downs. I want to use something part/tool related. I was thinking about buying some cheap wrenches, then cut off the box ends and use them. Any ideas?

I ordered my Jeds machine 203/205 doubler today. I have an extra 203 so I tore it down to send him the shaft for resplining.

[IMG][/IMG]

Instead of tearing down the entire case to separate the gear case from the chain drive you can just cut this rail in two with a torch.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Here it is separated. The shaft may needed beating with a deadblow to get it separated from the chain drive. Be sure to keep those 15 needle bearings you can see in the end of the shaft.

[IMG][/IMG]

The snap ring holding on the bearing on the shaft can be a bitch to remove. I finally used a hooked pick to hold one side of the ring in place, I then took a straight pick and pushed it under and to the side of the snap ring. I then just tapped the straight pick with a hammer all the way around the shaft until it popped out.

[IMG][/IMG]

Here it is all apart and ready for shipment. I will be twinsticking my 205 when I pick it up.

[IMG][/IMG]

I also ordered a front locker for the Dana 60 and chromo 35 spline stubs and drive flanges.

Sorry if I missed it, how happy were you with the fitment of the S&W cage?

The bends all matched up well and I am fairly happy with it. I had to cut the front door bars to fit, and the main hoop to fit. They make them a little long so you can fit them where you want. Some of the pieces are notched, some aren't. Just be prepared to cut to fit and do some notching.

As long as its not as sloppy as the K5 kit I saw on here I'd be happy, that one looked like it was a size too small all the way around.

If you look at the pics you can see that it fits up pretty close to everything. You just have to make sure to cut everything the right length...Before I put some of the bracing in it you could barely tell that it had a cage at first glance.

I bought this truck for parts. I am thinking a shorty crew cab turbo diesel. I also picked up my H1's and 37's that I am going to put on my 86 Crew cab. I'm waiting on my pvc inserts...

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Here is the 86 F-350 for reference.

[IMG][/IMG]

I also got my flatbed painted and welded on. I painted my rear half of the cage too. I cut bearing races in half and used them for tie downs.

I like the half a ring gear for a tie down. Might have to do that one myself.

I recieved my stubs, flanges and locker today. I installed my locker and got it back into the housing. I'm deciding on which u joints to run right now. If I go Bling it will be longfield 300m. If I go cheap for now it is spicer 5-806x. I ground down my stubs so they would fit. My frame was cracked by the steering box. I used my ball end carbide tip on my die grinder to grind out the cracks and welded them up. I plan on full hydro, just trying to scrounge parts. I also ordered a some heims, bungs, misalignment spacers, and jam nuts for my highsteer tonight.

LOL...that is a possibility. My house was almost flooded last week. Luckily the culvert by the corrals didnt wash out, it was kind of dammed up there and running over the road.

Stubs, flanges and locker.

[IMG][/IMG]

Locker installed in my carrier.

[IMG][/IMG]

I needed to grind a little off of my stubs to get them to fit through the knuckle. A smart man would have either... A: Put the stub in a vice. OR B: Wear gloves when he was grinding said stub. Unfortunately I am neither.

[IMG][/IMG]

I decided to use Spicer 5-806x forged cross U-joints. I hope they are up to the task. I tack welded the caps to the axles for extra insurance.

[IMG][/IMG]

My frame was cracked near the steering box. Here is the previous owner's feeble attempt at fixing the problem.

[IMG][/IMG]

My handy carbide tip and die grinder beveled out the cracks.

[IMG][/IMG]

Welded up.

[IMG][/IMG]

Here is the 86 crew cab sporting some recentered H1's and 37's. It flexes like a ceder fence post and has the turning radius of a river barge but it is still fun to drive!
