ok, so i used to have a 78 Bronco on 40's and i loved it, and wish i never got rid of it. I picked up this F150 cheap and have decided on building it up, imon a budget so it may take a while. Anybody runnin one of these year model trucks or broncos have some ideas? I wanna go all out on this thing and any info or help would be great. Feel free to post any pics or your ford in this model, lets keep this goin
302 carb, edelbrock 650cfm. NP435/NP205. it was originally a 6cyl, but got swaped for the v8. untill new ones are ready or these break the axles are TTB44/8.8, but they have to go. im guessin 4.10's in the diffs since it used to be 6cyl
Its terribly messy under there, it has been a wiring nightmare and looked so much worse when i got it. as i said, budget is tight right now so im rewiring what i can since thats cheap
the frame and cab on mine are the same. the front clip and interior changed and i've got fuel injection. it should have 3.55 gears unless someone changed them or had it special ordered.
i've got a set of axles out of an '88 f350. so it's a kingpin D60 front and a sterling 10.25 rear. arb front detroit rear. 5.13 gears. front is full 35 spline chromo. i needed a sterling for the speed sensor. my e4od needs it. for you i'd recomend a 14 bolt. they are just as easy to get and they are easier to set up. and if you want a detroit it's cheaper.
mine isn't as far as you can go by any means but it's sure got a lot of parts and time in it.
60's are pretty easy to find around here and thats what ill figure ill go with, but thats down the road... since it will cost me no money im about to shorten the frame and bob/dovetail the bed
Yep that's what I did with mine, and I'd stay away from a 14-bolt. I have run them in the past, they are like a one bottom plow in the woods and on rocks, plus I was always putting wheel seals in them. You should be able to get a 10.25 at pull a part down there for 80-100 bucks.
Right now im havin issues keepin her runnin, always thought i had carb issues, and i think the weather change has brought out the worst in it... Feels like i got a float sticking, sometimes it runs great, sometimes it spits sputters and dies... currently its dead
1980 f150 with a 351w c6 np208 then 9inch with locker and ttb44 front with 4:10s and 36s
was running 6inch bds lift and 3inch body lift
truck is no more because it was a 1980 with the swiss cheese frame and he busted the frame. all the drive trail has been put into a 92 f150 with a 302 fuel injection and now we are talking about doing a sas 44 with coil overs and 3link
so i popped open the top of this carb tonight cause i thought i had a floart problem... The travel on the floats was so far off it looked someone had set the level entireley wrong. so crossin my fingers gettin this right solves my problems.
heres some ideal from my trucks its more of a work anywhere you want truck not a hardcore rig
stock front end and rear is off an e450 van heavier duty but still similar weight
diesel 7.3 idi
and something noone mentioned yet is 80-97 front ends are interchangable for the most part easy bolt on new look
now ive gone through some nasty crap in this truck no problems so my plans include a 2in body lift and 36 thats all
got this thing runnin and runnin good now, hopefully my motor issues are out of the way and i can start cutting
@buildembig, you got any more pics of the shorten and dovetail? thats my next step here now... think ive got it all figured out, but would love some close ups for any ideas
I'd just sas the front, 6" lift, cut the fenders, and put 39.5"s on it and go play in the mud!! I think you have a cool truck, I wouldn't screw with the bed.
im looking to do something different with this one, ive spent my time in the mud and woods...
but SAS is definitely coming when i have the money, the bed will be easy and cheap
I <heart> 80-86 trucks.. i'm trying to finish my build without much luck..
