Went to move my '70 2wd yesterday and managed to end up sticking the fucker in low gear. Can't get the actual selector arm on the trans to move now. Tried a wrench around it, taps with a hammer, no dice. I got a half hearted click but I can't push it back toward park. Trans has fluid in it and prior to sitting for a couple weeks worked perfect. '70 2wd 360/c6 combo.
Parking pawl actuator, lever, whatever you wanna call it. Pull the pan off and the extension housing off, and the broken part should fall out. Same thing just happened to me. It just stuck in park. There's really nothing in the valve body to bind THAT hard. I'll see if I can't get some pics of what you're looking at in there. Pretty simple fix if i'm right. Just a PITA to get the snap ring off.
Extension housing = tail housing? Would really appreciate pics, this is only the 2nd automatic I've ever had and the first one I've actually had to work on. So I'd have to get another parking pawl?
Ok here's the best I can do. That end on the arm broke off on mine and jammed against the case. there's quite a few things it can catch on or jam against in there.
You will have to remove the pan, valve body, extension housing, and maybe the governor sleeve to replace it. You may be able to check it by just taking off the pan. If you can move it more than just wiggling it then its probably broke.
