Basically what I have is a 78/9 bronco frame with 351M c6. He has a 90 Ranger cab on the frame currently along with some one ton axles. The 351M has seen better days and runs like pooh and knocks.
He picked up a donor 91 F250 2wd 351 efi with a 5spd.
I am going to install the 351 efi with a matching c6 into the 78/9 Bronco Frame. This motor has ALOT of the smog stuff on it. This truck is straight trail rig in the end.
Concerns...
1. Motor mounts, will the 351W just bolt up to where the 351M was in the frame or do we need different mounts?
2. Once I delete all the smog stuff, I assume I shouldn't have any driveability concerns.....Should still run near normal.
Deleting all the smog stuff? I am assuming you mean just the one million hoses and shit and not the O2 sensors but you already know that I'm sure, I'm not so sure that the C6 will bolt up to the 351w though. It bolts up to a 429 460 but IDK about the 351W motor mounts should be about the same if not I think Jeffsbroncograveyard sells a conversion but you would be better off making your own.
The C6 behind the 351M will not bolt up to a 351W. 351M has a big block bellhousing bolt pattern.
Like broncoxraptor said, I am not sure about the motor mounts. I know that to go from a 351M to a 460, you need adapter mounts. That may mean that there is a decent chance the W will physically bolt to the M motor mounts.
REusing the harness from the donor truck......I did a 96 F250 351 efi from a e4od truck in my 2003 ranger dash.....used the f250 harness and wired it to work with the 03 Instrument cluster.....yes all my gauges work lol. I just get an occasional bump in idle now and then. I think its because the inputs are missing from the e4od and rear speed sensor but it runs fine and strong.
motor mounts will work as far as i know. do the '90s 5.8 mounts still have spacers in them? reason i ask, early 80s fords sometimes used spacers and still used a '70s style motor mount, the spacer was used to make up for the difference in frame width. If your mounts dont have spacers, you will have to use motor mounts for an older truck, but all the frame side stuff should be ok.
