this may be a stupid question, but i cant get the axle shaft to come out of this 02 dana 60 front ? does anyone know if it comes out of the middle of the knuckle like the older d60s or does the knuckle come off first?
Slides right through. You can even take it out while still attached to the unit bearing, though that will only make it harder to budge.
Crowbar behind the lip of the ears, against the end of the tube. Wiggle while prying and it will pop out. Probably mud or rust sealing it up tight near the axle seals.
I like to use 2 bars behind the inner axle, the is a seal at the end of the axle tube, get behind that on each side & give both bars a shove, some cam be a real pickle sucker to get out, but it will go.
Fought with my 03 front end a few nights ago for about 20 minutes. Pry bar pushed it out in under 8 seconds.
