The ghetto way ( the way I did it) is to remove the spring and special cup from the tailgate. This way it will fit in the factory 99-07 mount, but the tailgate isn't spring assist anymore. The proper way ( which I found out about after I did it the ghetto way) is to order the 08 mount from Ford, which is about $12. Unbolt the old mount and bolt in the new one and the spring assist works |

I had some time today to tackle some of the smaller jobs that needed to be done. I put some trim pieces back on the Excursion and pulled all the wiring I need out of the superduty.
I also pulled the transfercase skidplate off the F350 ![]() And put it on the Excursion ![]() I also put the front bumper on the F350 so it doesn't look like its ready for the scrap yard ![]() I've done a bit of highway driving with it and I am very happy with the performance of the V10. I am able to cruise at 1800-2000rpm ( 90-100 km/h) in overdrive with alot less throttle and I can actually accelerate without it kicking down |

The 350 looks goofy as hell with that bling ass grille and bumper next to the sealed beam lamps. You thought about putting the sealed beams on the Ex? I always liked the look a little better than the aero lights. To me they just look more classic and tough. Sealed beams don't yellow over time either which is nice.

![]() Yeah, those are the ones that I am going with. I want to do an 07 front end swap on mine, well, just the grille, headlights, and whatever else it needs to switch over. Also, if mine doesn't have tow mirrors on it, I will be swapping those on as well. My tax check is suppose to be here TOMORROW, Then its EX shoppin' time!!!! I am not going for a lot of chrome/ SS, but I think nice lights, chrome grill, chrome mirrors, etc look nice.

If you are going to swap to a 05+ grille, you'll need to change the front bumper as well.
I pretty much just want to do the lights....but that's way down on my priorities list Last edited by Duty calls; 03-13-2011 at 10:54 PM. |

I hauled some steel to the scrapyard and I got the weight of the excursion. So , with me( 150 pounds) the factory spare ( which is useless weight now)and 1/4 tank of fuel, the EX weighed 7740 lbs. That is about 550 pounds more than my duty....but the Ex still doesn't have the rear bumper, the rock sliders and a full tank of fuel. I Imagine it will be really close to 8000 lbs when finished and full of fuel

Front bumper doesn't concern me, I am building one. I have decided to hold off for a year on my Excursion purchase and build up. I will have to live vicariously through you I suppose.

Bumper time!
found some time this weekend to work on the Excursion thanks to my pal kevin and the yellow liftcart...we got the bumper in place and figured out how we were going to mount it ![]() We ended up using a factory 1/2" hole, and enlarged 2 smaller ones ![]() To get the bumper to fit, we had to notch the bottom to fit around the gastank ![]() and to get at the bolts, we had to cut an access hole behind the license plate ![]() It's on ( sorry this one is a bit blurry) ![]() Its sitting back a bit farther then we had it on the superduty to offer a bit more protection to the rear doors and glass...it was more like a rollpan on the truck ![]() We are going to make small caps to weld on the bumper to bring it flush with the flares ![]() Of course there are no towhooks or lights yet...we just wanted to get it mounted for now and tackle the other stuff another day |
