Lookin at buyin an 01 f350
What would be a decent price to pay for an 01 reg cab xlt f350 powerstroke 6spd. Minimal rust on driver side wheel well, frame excellent as well as cab. Has 180k miles and 1 owner. It kbbs for 12k but that seems really steep but I guess diesels have sky rocketed over the last couple years?
Its all stock and interior is also very clean he took really good care of it. It still pulls like crazy. Just looking for input cause I don't wanna overpay and 180k is kinda scaring me. Thanks guys Sent from my DROID2 using Tapatalk

If it has been serviced properly 180K is nothing. Those are really good trucks. The 7.3L is the best diesel that Ford has ever built. Have a diesel shop give it the once over and then talk him down. I don't think I would pay $12k for it. Not when there are really nice trucks out there for WAY less. There is a company near me that has some '03-'04 (6.0L) work trucks for $4500, and they look perfect. Shop around, no matter what the owner thinks it books out at, that rust hurts the value BIG TIME! I will not even look at a northern truck because of rust. Those repairs get too expensive too quck, and you can never see all of the rust. A friend of mine just bought a '97 Silverado cab for the rebuild of his '95, and it looked solid, but it's eaten up with rust.

Oh I was just saying that's what it books at, he wants $7500 with a contractors cap that I could probably sell for $400

7500 sounds like a pretty good deal to me. 180K isnt much if it was taken care of.

Seems like its been really well taken care of one owner and he's an older fellow. Getting rid of it cause he got a crew cab of the same vintage with less miles.

On this note, I am looking at a very similar truck. 01 F-250 reg cab long bed 4x4 7.3L with a 6 speed. 186k on it. The lot wants $12k for it. I wouldn't pay more than $8,000 for it, but was wondering, would that truck have a Dana 50 or Dana 60 in it being an F250? I know somewhere around that year they switched and the 250s had a Dana 60 as well.

Lots of debate about the D50/D60 stuff. My folks have a 2001 F-350 diesel crew cab and it came with the D50 up front. Works fine for mostly tow duty and the occasional trail or muddy field it needs to get through.
The good thing is that the front axle is super easy to swap for a newer 60 and the unit bearing axles don't cost anywhere near as much as the older stuff.

I paid 3500 for a 00' ex cab 4x4, 7.3 auto, paint chipped off the bottom of the doors, but no rust, very clean overall, but 400K on it.

$7500 sounds like a great price. As far as the axle goes all SRW Super Duty’s to mid year 01 had Dana 50’s and all DRW and 2001.5 SRW have Dana 60’s . Being a 250 or 350 has nothing to do with it. In late 2001 7.3s had PMRs (powder metal rods) which are known to let go when you start putting big power to them. But if you don’t intend to go over 400 hp it’s not really a problem. You can’t really go wrong with a low mile 7.3.
